Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs & Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students & Director forStudent Support and Case Management serves as a deputy to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students supporting the University's Student Community, Advocacy and Support strategic area.

The Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Support and Case Management will lead a comprehensive portfolio of campus and community strategies that support students' facing obstacles that may impact their success. These challenges may include behavioral and/or mental health, physical health, basic needs resources, etc. The Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Support and Case Management will assist the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Student with a dual reporting line to the Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief of Police, in ensuring compliance with UNC Policy 1300.7: Regulation on Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management Teams.

The Associate Dean of Students and Director for Student Support and Case Management will lead a team that administers the Aggie Campus Assessment, Response and Evaluation (C.A.R.E.), Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and Aggie Source (food pantry and professional clothing) and other resources to support students and will facilitate students' connection with off-campus resources for housing, social services and other community resources, and will serve as the primary administrator for case management database management system and distribution of case management cases, ensuring accurate data entry and collection for all cases. and will provide direct case management services to students that include interventions, referrals, and follow-up support.

The Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Support and Case Management will collaborate closely with student affairs partners, faculty and academic colleagues, healthcare providers and families to support students.

The Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Support and Case Management may support student conduct administration serve as a designated hearing officer as needed.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Office of the Dean of Studentsleads university strategies to connect students to coordinated, integrated resources, advocacy, and guidance that foster belonging, uphold shared community standards, and help students navigate challenges so they can thrive academically, personally, and socially through the following operations: Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution; Student Support and Case Management, Aggie C.A.R.E., threat assessment, behavioral intervention, and case management services; Aggie Source (basic needs resources), Off-Campus Living and Community Partnerships, Parent and Family Partnerships and Graduate Student Life in partnership with the Graduate College. The Office of Housing and Residence Life will function as a constituent of the Office of the Dean of Students to ensure coordinated community standards and crisis response.

Minimum Requirements
• Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, social work, or a related field.
• Minimum of seven years of progressive leadership and supervision experience in a post-secondary setting, with at least three years directing a department or function area within student affairs.
• Extensive experience in student conduct, threat assessment, behavioral intervention, and crisis management operations.

Strong background in technology-based student conduct and case management record system governance (i.e. Maxient).
• Demonstrated leadership, sound judgment, political acumen, and discernment during challenging circumstances.
• Strong background in policy development and compliance and knowledge of local, state and federal laws and proceedings related to college students.
• Excellent organization, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Evidence of strong interpersonal communications skills and ability to cultivate strong partnerships with different stakeholders.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
• Current engagement or leadership with ASCA, HECMA, NaBITA, or other related organizations focused on case management and threat assessment in college and university settings strongly preferred.
• Prior experience at a large, public, R1 university setting.
• Demonstrated success at institutions with a comparable mission.
• Doctorate in higher education, student affairs or related field and experience managing crisis, threat assessment and parent and family communications, preferred.
