Department: Dean of Education Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
Description:

The Associate Dean serves as the chief academic and operational officer of the College of Education, reports to the Dean, and supports the activities of the Dean's Office in the College of Education primarily in the areas of accreditation, student services and success, academic programs, facilities, recruitment, strategic planning, and continuous improvement. The Associate Dean ensures compliance with accreditation standards and state regulations, promotes academic excellence, supports faculty development, oversees institutional effectiveness processes, and advances the college's strategic goals in partnership with the dean, department chairs, faculty, and external stakeholders. These duties include addressing student concerns and grievances; supervising and coordinating student recruitment and program marketing; supervising the Advisement and Certification offices; coordinating the CEP and CPDT programs; managing curriculum, assessment, and scheduling of academic programs; overseeing program review, managing accreditation and other compliance and reporting duties; communicating with university, community, and state constituencies as appropriate; coordinating the use of College facilities; implementing strategic priorities and projects; substituting for the Dean and serving as a signatory in the Dean's absence; and fulfilling additional responsibilities as assigned by the Dean. The Associate Dean serves at the pleasure of the Dean.

Duties:
  • Curriculum, Assessment, and Scheduling: Work with departments and programs to ensure the curriculum is current, relevant, and efficient; lead the College's efforts in the curriculum process, including the UCC, Curriculog; working with the Director of Assessment and Planning, assist departments and programs in their assessment and formal review of academic programs throughout the entire process with the goal of continuous program improvement; coordinate with departments and programs in the rollout of their semester schedules, ensuring that the schedule is correct, efficient, and meets the needs of students; serve as the final approver of the schedule before it is available to students.
  • Student Services: Serve as the primary contact in the College for issues related to the recruitment of students, their success, and any complaints or grievances; ensure that the documents, website, and other communications relating to coming from the Dean's Office are correct and up to date; oversee the operations of the Advising and Certification Offices; serve as primary administrator for the Center for Educational Programs (CEP) and the Center for Professional Development of Teachers (CPDT) offices and activities.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Serve as the primary contact for the College in areas of compliance and accreditation with the System, the State, the Federal Government, and with SACSCOC; oversee reports as needed to remain in compliance, such as Title II or reports to TEA and other reports as needed.
  • Strategic Planning: serve as the operational and collaborative leader who helps translate the college's priorities into measurable goals, initiatives, and outcomes; monitor progress toward strategic objectives and key performance indicators; use labor market and educational trend data to identify growth opportunities; develop strategic partnerships with school districts, community colleges, nonprofits, and industry partners.
  • Facilities: Serve as the lead for facilities issues, such as work orders, maintenance, or renovations; assist departments and programs with any issues related to room assignments, technology, or other facilities-related problems or requests, working with other staff in the College or University as appropriate and perform additional duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  1. Doctoral degree in Education or Educational Leadership field.

  3. Must be currently appointed at the rank of Professor.

  1. PhD in Educational or related field.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to work effectively with diverse groups of people and possess strong interpersonal skills to collaborate one-on-one with faculty and staff, as well as within small teams, large committees, and groups.
  • Quick Study: Must be able to quickly learn and implement new policies and procedures, as well as be knowledgeable of and skilled in the rules, regulations, and policies of the institution as well as State and Federal requirements, which may change frequently.
  • Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and through digital formats; convey information accurately and efficiently, respond promptly to faculty, staff, and students within a reasonable response time.
  • Knowledge and skills in academia and leadership: Must possess the knowledge and skills needed to resolve curriculum, policy, faculty, staff, and student-related matters.
