Position Summary

The Division of Education at Indiana University Kokomo invites applications for a full time, 10-month, Associate Dean position beginning January 1, 2027. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the position includes a faculty rank of associate or full professor, depending on qualifications. One of eight campuses of Indiana University, Indiana University Kokomo is a comprehensive non-residential campus located 50 miles north of Indianapolis in Kokomo, Indiana, a city with a population of about 57,000. Committed to student success, the campus serves approximately 3,230 students from a 14-county area in north-central Indiana. IU Kokomo has around 260 full-time faculty and staff. Basic Qualifications

Requirements include a doctoral degree in Education or related field, teaching experience at the undergraduate college level, a successful research program, a demonstrated commitment to collaboration, and administrative experience. The candidate's teaching, research, and service record will be appropriate for the rank of associate or full professor at Indiana University Kokomo. Teaching and/or research experience in literacy is preferred, but not required.

Administrative duties

The associate dean will primarily serve an administrative role and will also have faculty status within the Division of Education. Administrative duties include:
  • Operational oversight, e.g. working closely with placement coordinator, program coordinator, and assessment coordinator.
  • Represent IUK DOE on multiple committees, such as the MSEd in Science of Reading and Registered Apprenticeship program.
  • Oversee curriculum, enrollment, recruitment, retention, advising, and student progression across undergraduate, graduate, licensure, residency, and apprenticeship programs.
  • Lead accreditation, assessment, and regulatory compliance, including CAEP accreditation, Teacher Preparation Inspection, state policies, licensure requirements, and key program assessments.
  • Develop, launch, and revise academic programs in response to workforce needs, state mandates, enrollment trends, and student outcomes.
  • Hire, onboard, train, mentor, and evaluate adjunct instructors, including syllabus review, teaching observations, feedback meetings, and ongoing instructional support.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with P-12 districts, superintendents, state agencies, IU Online, other IU campuses, and external organizations.
  • Represent the Division of Education on campus, university, state, and cross-campus committees and serve as a primary point of contact for external partners.
  • Lead recruitment, outreach, and program promotion through district visits, information sessions, campus events, website updates, and marketing materials.


Teaching and service
  • Teach one course per semester. Summer teaching is optional and for additional pay.
  • Perform various service duties for the Division.

Research
  • Tenured and tenure-track faculty have research expectations governed by Division, campus, and university policies. Normally this is 20% of their workload, but administrative positions waive this requirement. Should the associate dean leave the administrative position and return to faculty, they will be expected to pursue a research agenda in accordance with these policies.

Workload

The associate dean's workload will follow Indiana University's standard formula as follows:
  • 60% admin
  • 20% teaching
  • 20% service


Compensation includes faculty salary (dependent on rank) and an administrative stipend throughout the 10-month academic year as well as during summer sessions. Summer teaching is optional and for additional pay.
