Job Description:

Nassau Community College invites applications for a full-time Assistant Vice President in the Office of Facility Management.

The Assistant Vice President will provide leadership, direction, general supervision and evaluation for all assigned departments/areas, as aligned to the College's Strategic Plan and Goals, using the highest of ethical standards. In addition, the Assistant Vice President is expected to work expeditiously and diligently on behalf of the institution, while operating with a data-informed and equity-focused approach to enhance student access and enrollment in collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development of capital budgets and expedite College, County and state agencies' budget review and approval, in collaboration with the President, President's Cabinet, General Counsel, and others.
  • Provide practical leadership for significant campus capital construction and capital renovation projects, as assigned.
  • Provide oversight for all campus construction from initial design to completion.
  • Assist with identifying and implementing efficiency enhancing programs such as energy savings and sustainability programs.
  • Assist with the review and update of the Campus Facilities Master Planning document to align with SUNY guidelines and the College's Strategic Plan and complementary plans.
  • Supervise and direct staff, as assigned.
  • Maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, ordinances, regulations and pending legislation related to assigned area.
  • Exhibit fiscal responsibility and accountability in the management of all assigned budgets and necessary reporting.
  • Responsible for identifying and eliminating redundancies in assigned areas, as well as working collaboratively with other senior administrators to eliminate redundancies and ensure effective and efficient operation of the College.
  • Assist in institutional management, policy development, college advancement, and strategic planning, as needed.
  • Attend, in a confidential capacity, to personnel administration and disciplinary procedures, as needed.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all areas of the College.
  • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team.
  • Serve on committees as appointed.
  • Meet with and brief the Board of Trustees and/or with individual trustees when required.
  • Provide the President, President's Cabinet, the Board of Trustees, and general and outside counsel with confidential information and advice in the performance of duties as a direct College representative during negotiations and contract administration with the collective bargaining representatives of College employees, pursuant to the Taylor Law of the State of New York, as needed.
  • Participate directly in labor negotiations when necessary.
  • Work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:
  • Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business or Public Administration, or a related area and seven (7) years of experience in high-level leadership/management, including working in a unionized environment; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business or Public Administration, or a related area and twelve (12) years of high-level leadership/management experience, including working in a unionized environment.
  • Experience directing capital project initiatives resulting in improved facility enhancements and planning for continuous improvement and campus upkeep.
  • Experience working with College, County, and state agencies' budget review and approval processes.
  • Experience formulating, managing, and reconciling multi-million-dollar budgets.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in different stages of completion while managing the competing demands on this individual's time.
  • Familiarity with current facilities design and construction methodology, technology and appropriate computer skills necessary for the effective analysis and communication of data relevant to the needs of area departments.
  • Knowledge of various contracting procedures, including but not limited to Requests for Proposals, invitations for Bid, Architectural Engineering contracts, Construction contracts, and Design-Build contracts.
  • Familiarity with the mission, goals, and objectives of the College and the demographics of the current student body and staff of the College.
  • Knowledge of local community and service area.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently.
  • Knowledge and skill in identifying problems, analyzing data, and making recommendations.
  • Knowledge and skill in performing investigations.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and energy.
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administration, and internal and external constituencies.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:
  • Doctorate degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business or Public Administration, or a related area.
  • Five (5) years of experience in higher education primarily focused on design and construction or physical plant operations and maintenance, including inventory control.
  • Experience working at a Community College.
  • Experience with current management system(s) and programs used in Higher Education and/or the related area(s), including but not limited to Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, Visio, and Adobe Professional, as well as being proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).

Additional Information:

The starting salary for this position is $130,000.00 annually.
