Job Description:

Schnabel's Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) group is seeking an Assistant Technology Applications Engineer to support the evaluation, development, and implementation of emerging technologies that enhance engineering workflows and client solutions. In this role, you will collaborate with technical experts across the company to identify opportunities for innovation, test new technologies, and help drive adoption of technology-based solutions throughout the organization.

The RDI group helps transform emerging ideas and technologies into practical solutions that improve engineering workflows, project delivery, and client outcomes. The team works with technical staff across the company to identify opportunities, evaluate new technologies, develop and implement innovative tools and processes, and support adoption through training, pilot projects, and change management efforts. RDI also advances Schnabel's industry leadership through applied research, conference presentations, publications, and business development support. Areas of focus span artificial intelligence, automation, geospatial technologies, advanced sensing and reality capture, software engineering, data management, optimization, and visualization technologies.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Research and identify emerging technologies relevant to engineering and business operations.
  • Assist with technology evaluations through pilot studies, proof-of-concept projects, and technical testing.
  • Support the development and implementation of technology solutions that improve workflows and project delivery.
  • Create training materials, user guides, onboarding resources, and other documentation to support technology adoption.
  • Contribute to presentations, webinars, white papers, proposals, and other business development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate innovative technologies into project work and improve efficiency.
  • Stay informed of technology trends through industry publications, conferences, webinars, and professional networks.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal stakeholders during technology deployment and adoption.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in learning new technologies, tools, and technical concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and spatial reasoning skills, including the ability to interpret engineering drawings and data.
  • Interest in engineering and infrastructure projects such as dams, hydropower facilities, pump stations, tunnels, transportation infrastructure, and foundations.
  • Willingness and ability to perform occasional field work and navigate active construction sites as needed.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to professional growth.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience with engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Inventor, SketchUp, MicroStation, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
  • Programming experience with Python, JavaScript, or other scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with software development practices, version control platforms (such as GitHub), or automation workflows.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with engineering data.
  • Experience with field data collection technologies, including surveying, drones/UAVs, geophysics, or remote sensing.
  • Exposure to engineering modeling tools and techniques, including finite element modeling (FEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

The compensation range for this position is between $80,000 to $95,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
