The at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a position in medieval and/or transregional history, 7th-16th centuries. This tenure-track appointment will be made at the assistant professor level, beginning July 1, 2027.

 

Position Title: Assistant Professor.

 

Duties: Responsibilities include, in varying proportions: a) active research and knowledge mobilization program; b) teaching; c) recruitment and supervision of graduate students; d) service to the community.

·       Maintain and develop a research program in medieval and/or transregional history, 7th-16th centuries.

·       Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in medieval and/or transregional history, 7th-16th centuries in both French and English.

·       Recruit and train graduate students.

·       Work collaboratively in research and service.

·       Participate in administrative activities of the department.

 

Terms: New tenure-track position.

 

Salary: The starting salary for an Assistant Professor is $99,377 (according to the scale in effect as of May 1, 2025).

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a scholar in medieval and/or transregional history, 7th-16th centuries, with the following:

·       Possess a doctorate (Ph.D.) by July 1, 2027, in History or a related discipline.

·       A demonstrated track record of research excellence, including peer-reviewed publications, in medieval and/or transregional history, 7th-16th centuries.

·       Excellent communication skills in either English or French. English-French bilingualism is an asset. Active knowledge of Canada’s two official languages (French and English) is a requirement for tenure.

·       Evidence of excellence in the teaching of history or of a related discipline.

·       Experience attracting and supervising graduate students is an asset.

·       Competence in creative design of user experiences to mobilize historical knowledge in an online environment is an asset.

·       Ability to train students to engage the profound changes produced by digital technologies and create, use and deploy digital tools for critical analysis of theories, models and methods in digital humanities is an asset.
