Job Title Assistant Professor - History
Department History
Essential Functions The Department of History at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor for the Louis and Frances Blumkin Professorship for Holocaust and Genocide Studies. The successful candidate will have a 2-2 teaching load and will also serve as the Director of The Sam & Frances Fried Holocaust & Genocide Academy. Anticipated start date is August 16, 2027.
As a tenure-track faculty member, the successful candidate's duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, maintaining an active research portfolio, and service to the faculty member's department, college, and university.
The
UNO Department of History awards undergraduate degrees (B.A. and B.S.) and supports graduate programming in history (M.A. and Certificate) and History & Government (M.A.). The successful candidate will teach the History Department's course on the Holocaust each academic year. In addition, they should be prepared to teach Comparative Genocide, research methods, graduate seminars, and contribute to the department's general education offerings.
The
The Sam & Frances Fried Holocaust & Genocide Academy promotes and facilitates the scholarly study of the Holocaust and other genocides and provides students, faculty, and community members the tools to assist in the prevention of crimes against humanity. The academy holds regular programming relating to the Holocaust and other genocides and helped establish and grow UNO's Holocaust and Genocide Studies Minor, the first of its kind in the Midwest. This comprehensive program of study is designed to help students understand the causes of genocide, to draw lessons from the past, and to assist them in becoming responsible global citizens.
Responsibilities:- Teach a 2-2 course load across introductory and advanced levels.
- Maintain an active research agenda with publications.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives and curriculum development.
- Serve as Director of The Sam & Frances Fried Holocaust & Genocide Academy, supporting its mission through program development and community engagement.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff across the College of Arts and Sciences to enhance the visibility and impact of the Fried Academy.
Work ScheduleAdditional DutiesRequired Qualifications The dissertation and all other work for a Ph.D. in history or a closely related field must be completed and approved by August 2027.
