Description

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine is seeking a full-time candidate for a faculty position in its world-renowned shoulder and elbow service. Responsibilities could include resident and fellow education, medical student teaching, and clinical or basic research. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop a busy clinical practice encompassing all aspects of shoulder and elbow conditions, as well as a robust program in clinical research, the study of educational methodologies, or basic research. The practice is located at the University of Washington Medical Center.

The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure) or Associate Professor WOT (without tenure) rank depending on qualifications. The majority of School of Medicine faculty hired in the professorial track are hired under the WOT designation. Faculty appointed WOT have the same rights, responsibilities and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. However, faculty appointed as WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated stated funds. This position has a flexible start date in the fall of 2027. Assistant Professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate Professors (WOT) hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Salary

Overall compensation is a combination of base salary plus other compensation. Base compensation is only one component of total compensation. The base salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor range is: $20,000 - $35,000 per month ($240,000-$420,000 annually) and at the Associate Professor range it is: $29,177- $38,334 per month-($350,124-460,008 annually). The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other Compensation

Other compensation associated with this position will include Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) and Semi-Annual Additional Compensation (SAAC) through the UW Physicians practice plan.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent), be board certified (or eligible) in orthopaedic surgery, complete a fellowship (or foreign equivalent) in shoulder & elbow surgery and have an approved Washington State Medical License by the hire date.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
