Job Title:
Assistant or Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AI Focus)
The Division of Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology in the College of Pharmacy at The Ohio State University invites applications at the Assistant or Associate Professor level for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Pharmaceutical Sciences. With a research emphasis on contemporary approaches for discovery, development, or optimization of drug therapies and/or models of disease and drug resistance, competitive applicants will have established or developing research programs that integrate artificial intelligence and other emerging computational approaches to address fundamental and translational challenges in the pharmaceutical sciences.
Ohio State’s university-wide AI(X) Hub is a multidisciplinary initiative that brings together researchers across 15 colleges to advance artificial intelligence for the public good. AI(X) Hub is expanding Ohio State University’s research community through recruitment of 100 AI-focused faculty members and is organized around six strategic pillars, including AI for Health. Through this initiative and the broader collaborative environment at Ohio State, the successful candidate will have opportunities to work with AI researchers, other pharmaceutical scientists, basic and translational biomedical investigators, clinicians, and industry partners across Ohio State.
Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
Collaborative Environment
The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative environment within the Division of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the broader College of Pharmacy.
The position is expected to contribute to the AI(X) Hub’s AI for Health mission by developing innovative, responsible, and translational AI approaches that accelerate therapeutic discovery and improve human health. The university’s AI for Health initiative is designed to connect advances in AI with biomedical research, clinical needs, and real-world health applications.

The College
Established in 1885, The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy is a global leader in pharmaceutical education, research and clinical practice. As part of one of the most comprehensive health sciences campuses in the nation, the college is home to world-class faculty, dedicated researchers and top-notch students who are leading the way in patient care outcomes, drug discovery and translational pharmacology. The college has received nearly $60 million in research awards over the past five years. Additionally, we are the only school of pharmacy in the nation to have twice received the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) 2023 Lawrence C. Weaver Transformative Community Service Award for our dedication to addressing unmet needs through education, practice and research. We are consistently ranked as a top ten school in the nation and are currently ranked fourth by U.S. News and World Report. Learn more at pharmacy.osu.edu.
Division Information
The mission of the faculty, scientists, students and staff of the Division of Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology is the discovery and development of drug therapies for the treatment of human disease. The training of the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists at the undergraduate (BS), professional (PharmD), graduate (PhD), and postdoctoral levels is intertwined with this mission. The Division of Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology researchers are leaders in the use of state-of-the-art technologies to conduct research centered around five major themes:
Cancer Therapeutics: The discovery of anti-cancer drug targets, identification/circumvention of drug resistance mechanisms, optimization of drug delivery and disposition, and development of novel therapies are major areas of focus for the division. Our anti-cancer therapeutics research leverages our expertise in novel drug delivery systems, drug transport and membrane trafficking, basic/translational/clinical pharmacology, pharmacogenomics and pharmacometrics to improve outcomes for cancer patients.
Cell Protective Therapies: Preclinical studies of mechanisms of cell death and strategies to enhance cell survival are under active investigation in the division. This knowledge will contribute to the development of therapies to reduce inflammatory and degenerative processes in patients with neurologic, cardiovascular and renal diseases.
Drug Delivery Systems: There is a need for improved delivery strategies of toxic therapeutics, newly developed biologics, and cell and gene therapies to the target site(s) in the body and prevent interactions with healthy tissues. Our research spans expertise in pharmaceutical chemistry, bioengineering, and RNA nanotechnology to develop future on-target medicines to improve human disease treatment.
Drug Toxicity: Understanding the mechanisms underlying the unwanted and adverse effects of drug therapies is a major area of investigation in the division. Knowledge of how drugs enter normal cells and exert toxic effects will help the design of strategies to mitigate this damage and improve patient health. Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) also contribute to adverse drug reactions in patients. Identification of mechanisms underlying DDIs is another area of investigation. Drug transporter and pharmacology principles are integral to this research theme.
Bacterial Infectious Diseases: A key research area, integrating pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and microbiology to optimize antimicrobial therapy. This work focuses on understanding interactions among pathogens, antibiotics, and the host to improve outcomes and limit resistance. Central to this effort is leveraging PK/PD relationships to define exposure–response dynamics and guide rational dosing that maximizes efficacy while minimizing toxicity and resistance emergence. Collaborative research targets the identification of novel antimicrobial strategies, improved drug design, and combination therapies for multidrug-resistant organisms. Using translational approaches spanning in vitro, in vivo, and clinical models, this work bridges mechanistic insight with patient outcomes to advance precision antimicrobial therapy and address the growing burden of resistant infections.
