About The RoleDaily Mail US is seeking an experienced
Assistant News Editor to help lead the editorial direction and daily operations of our US news teams, apps and social channels.
Reporting directly to the Head of News, you will work closely with the executive team to shape editorial strategy, manage newsroom workflows and oversee breaking news reporters, photo and video producers, and social and SEO staff.
You will play a key role in delivering accurate, compelling and engaging journalism for a 24-hour global newsroom. The ideal candidate has exceptional news judgment, a strong instinct for stories that resonate with our audience, and the ability to balance immediate breaking news demands with longer-term editorial planning in a fast-paced digital environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage a team of breaking news reporters, photo and video producers, and social editors.
- Collaborate with the executive team to set editorial direction, establish priorities and optimize newsroom workflows.
- Identify high-impact stories and exercise sharp news judgment to deliver timely, engaging coverage.
- Use audience analytics to optimize headlines, decks and story presentation in line with Daily Mail style and editorial standards.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, quality control and compelling storytelling across written, visual and multimedia content.
- Work closely with global editorial desks to deliver international stories that resonate with US readers.
- Mentor, coach and develop colleagues, providing constructive feedback and fostering a collaborative newsroom culture.

You will bring:
- A minimum of five years of newsroom management experience.
- A proven track record in news gathering, editing and leading teams in a fast-paced digital newsroom.
- Exceptional news judgment and the ability to identify stories with strong audience appeal.
- Outstanding writing and editing skills, with a commitment to accuracy and compelling storytelling under tight deadlines.
- Experience with multiplatform news gathering tools, editorial systems and digital publishing resources.
- Strong analytical skills and an understanding of audience metrics and content optimization.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior editorial leadership and global teams.
