Job overview and responsibilities

Assistant Manager - Aircraft Tooling is responsible to manage their portfolio by reviewing, procuring and allocating all aircraft tooling in respect to United's operational demand and schedule. Additionally, they will provide oversight on their team member's portfolio maintenance. They create the standard tooling requirements for each fleet type and mission, maintain list of non-standard tools requested by stations. They support tooling logistics systemwide and coordinate the movement of tools. They work closely with customers (station toolrooms) and vendors to foster those relationships. It is also the responsibility of the tooling planning assistant manager to contribute in continuous improvement and cost savings initiatives as they relate to aircraft tooling.

  • Oversight of team members contribution to system support with regards to their portfolios and performs the administrative duties required to manage their team
  • Provide employees with the tools to efficiently and effectively perform their daily activities
  • Assess tooling requirements at each station based on fleet type and maintenance missions
  • Assign Property Control numbers and allocate to the stations in collaboration with the Line and Base teams
  • Ensure Request for Quote (RFQ) are supplied in order to evaluate and negotiate price points / lead times and sense of urgency for purchase from a multitude of external tool vendors
  • Provide coverage and follow up for their team members as needed
  • Lead processes and application improvements, training and coaching to improve the productivity of the Company's tooling assets.
  • Provide OSV and line maintenance start-ups with the required tooling and review surplus and spare tooling inventory on a continual basis.
  • Act as a single point of contact for all tooling lease opportunities.
  • Coordinate with lease requestor to establish appropriate pricing, documentation and tracking for the lease's entire life cycle.
  • Support QA / QC audits and perform periodic tooling audits through-out operation
  • Evaluate current environment vs. potential expansion requirements to develop and present operational opportunities for improvement concepts based on thorough research and experiences in order to support the increased demands on the position.


Qualifications

What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience
  • BA/BS Degree and/or applicable Line or Base Aircraft Maintenance experience
  • Strong understanding of Continuous Improvement, Lean and Six Sigma principles
  • 3 years in Line or Base Maintenance environments
  • Strong leadership qualities and communication skills to including coaching, mentoring and training
  • Strong background and technical knowledge of aviation maintenance and maintenance programs
  • Proficient in using AMM's and the ability to read and Interpret Tool Drawings as needed
  • Perform detailed analysis on tooling procurement and make decisions with little to no supervision
  • Demonstrate analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to work independently and in a Team Environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for various audiences, including senior leadership
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
