Job Details:
PurposeUnder Supervisor of Utilities, execute and supervise the installation, retrofit, modification, inspection, testing, preventive, and corrective maintenance of electrical and control systems in a utility generation and distribution environment, ensuring technical and code compliance, and high-level performance.
Responsibilities- Execute and supervise the installation, retrofit, and modification of low and medium voltage circuit breakers and switchgear, lighting, battery equipment, motors, motor starters, VFD's, soft-starters, PLC, DCS, UPS, and ATS systems, and other electrical and controls related items in a power and chill water production environment. Maintains compliance with the National Electric Code. Arrange and manage the procurement of materials and services. Provides detailed estimates, maintains cost control, and submits PO request and associated documents.
- Execute an supervise the testing, preventive and corrective maintenance of low and medium voltage circuit breakers and switchgear, lighting, battery equipment, motors, motor starters, VFD's, soft-starters, PLC, DCS, UPS, and ATS systems, and other electrical and controls related items in a power and chill water production environment. Supervises maintenance activities following NFPA 70B maintenance practices.
- Execute and supervise detailed inspections of low and medium voltage circuit breakers and switchgear, lighting, battery equipment, motors, motor starters, VFD's, soft-starters, PLC, DCS, UPS, and ATS systems, and other electrical and controls related items in a power and chill water production environment. Supervises corrections to unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies.
- Execute and supervise after hour call outs and troubleshooting of system problems which could require following detailed operational and maintenance procedures. Keeps current on and recommends changes to operating procedures, new equipment, and related systems. Completes work orders using automated maintenance systems. Develops best troubleshooting practices flow charts.
- Supervise and monitor exposure to hazards typical to utilities plants, and utility distribution systems. Approves Job Safety Analysis as needed. Follow and enforce all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, take required safety training, and identifies and reports safety hazards. Complies with standards of workmanship and safety in the work place. Performs work tasks in a safe manner, wears appropriate personal protective equipment, and reports near misses and incidents. Identifies, reports, and corrects safety hazards. Works around hazardous materials, high temperatures, and loud environments. Performs elevated work on scaffolding, platforms, and personnel lifts. Works in confined spaces, including tunnels and man-holes. Operates bridge-cranes, hoists, forklifts and other equipment as required. Assist in supervising all instrumentation and controls work adhering to NFPA 70E standards for safety in the workplace. Assist with LOTO and development for E&C systems.
- Attends plant operation and maintenance training courses and meetings. May train new personnel as required. Organizes personnel training courses.
- Abides by and enforce Utilities and Energy Management's set of core values: Safety, Respect, Integrity, Reliability, Teamwork, and Excellence. Work effectively from a remote office or on campus. Drive university vehicle or cart. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
- Assist team with career growth and development of technical and leadership skills.
- Perform other related duties as assigned. Carry provided cell phone and participate in rotating on-call program. May be required to report to locations other than UT main campus.
Required Qualifications- High school graduation or GED.
- Five years of related journey-level experience, two of which in an industrial or utility environment with primary experience in the installation, retrofit, modification, inspection, testing, preventive, and corrective maintenance of low and medium voltage circuit breakers and switchgear, lighting, battery equipment, motors, motor starters, VFD's, soft-starters, PLC, DCS, UPS, and ATS systems.
- Have current Texas Journeyman Electrician license.
Preferred Qualifications- Eight years of related journey-level experience, five of which in an industrial or utility environment with primary experience in the installation, retrofit, modification, inspection, testing, preventive, and corrective maintenance of low and medium voltage circuit breakers and switchgear, lighting, battery equipment, motors, motor starters, VFD's, soft-starters, PLC, DCS, UPS, and ATS systems.
- Have current Texas Master Electrician license.
Driving RequiredThis job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Salary Range$85,000

- Required to operate forklifts, personnel lifts and bridge cranes and operate other job related equipment.
Work Shift40 hours a week, 9-80 Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday 06:00 AM–03:30 PM and Every other Friday 06:00 AM–02:30 PM.
