The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 37-bed unit that provides the highest level of care for critically ill and medically complex newborns throughout the region. We deliver comprehensive, family centered care to preterm and full-term infants with the most complex medical and surgical conditions. Our unit is staffed 24 hours per day by a highly specialized multidisciplinary team which includes board certified neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatal nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, lactation specialists, and pediatric subspecialists. The multidisciplinary team delivers highly specialized monitoring, critical care interventions, and evidence-based treatment focused on achieving optimal patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.
The Assistant Director of Patient Care plays a pivotal role in supporting the Director of Patient Care in overseeing the delivery of high-quality, patient centered nursing services within a designated unit or department. This position combines clinical expertise, leadership, and administrative responsibilities to ensure efficient operations, staff development & engagement, and compliance with regulatory standards.
The Assistant Director fosters a collaborative environment, promotes patient safety, and drives quality improvement initiatives while assisting in the management of daily operations and long-term strategic goals. This role is also responsible in assisting with administrative tasks such as scheduling, budgeting, and compliance.
Qualifications:Required:- BSN required
- At least 3-5 years of leadership/charge/preceptor experience as a Neonatal Registered Nurse required
Preferred:- MSN highly preferred
- Previous acute care experience preferred
- Previous experience as a nursing director preferred
Certifications and Licenses Required:- BLS and NRP Certifications required
- National Certification in clinical specialty required
- Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License required
Scheduling Requirements:
- Full Time, Night Shift
- 80 hours - Three 12 hour shifts per week, and one 8 hour shift every other week
- Some weekend coverage
- On Call Leadership Coverage
Essential Functions:- Provides leadership and direction in order to fulfill the goals and objectives of the unit/organization
- Effectively communicates information to staff, utilizes resources and manages staff and services
- Assists the Director with the daily operations of the unit and delegated responsibilities
- Will be assigned 50 percent of patient care responsibilities
- Collaboratively prepares and maintains staff schedule and payroll
- Effectively collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and drives through-out staff accountability
