Work Shifts7:00 P.M - 8:00 A.M (Covering Weekends)Duties & ResponsibilitiesPurpose:Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Executive, assigns, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care on an ongoing basis. Participates in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating nursing service and nursing education programs during the evening tour and performs related work. Demonstrates leadership that is self-directing, creative and innovative with an ability to evaluate self objectively and function effectively in stressful situations; is tactful, relates effectively and works with and through individuals with diverse backgrounds
Specific Duties and Responsibilities: (Position Specific Competencies)• Include technical, interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
• Assumes responsibility for the operation of the Nursing Department/hospital during the night tour.
• Assists in implementing organizational plans for nursing services that delineate nursing functions, define relationships with other departments/disciplines and ensure maintenance of clinically qualified nursing staff.
• Interprets policies/objectives of nursing services to staff, other disciplines and visitors; promotes harmonious working relationships; develops/maintains sound relationships with community, labor and professional groups.
• Assesses nursing services through rounds, chart reviews and observation/evaluation of nursing care; participates in a system of continuing evaluation of nursing services and directs/actually completes the evaluation of competency and performance of nursing personnel.
• Selects, develops and evaluates Tour 1 Administrative Nursing Supervisor Nursing Office Clerks; assists/guides in problem solving and other administrative issues.
• Participates in planning, organizing and evaluating nursing education programs; conducts/participates in meetings/conferences/seminars with nursing/hospital personnel.
• Is available as a resource person for the night tour; assures supervisory coverage 7 days per week.
• Attends/participates in continuing education programs.
• Participates in accreditation and P.I., Discharge Planning and JCAHO activities.
• Functions as Administrator on Duty
Minimum Qualifications1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.
2. Master's Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
