Full Job Description
Position Summary:

The Assistant Dental Director assists the Dental Director with supervision and evaluation of department staff. The Assistant Director will directly supervise clinical staff and support the Director in supervising Dental Residents and other trainees. The Assist Director will support the Dental Director in ensuring that all DPH, Joint Commission, HRSA and other regulations are strictly followed. The Assistant Director will help maintain and update all protocols and coordinates department's orientation/training program. The Assistant Director will help the Director in developing the departmental budget, compiles and prepares program statistics and assists in grant writing, as appropriate.

Program Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Help recruit staff and implement an effective orientation program for staff, evaluates department staff, using job description performance indicators and conducts annual competency assessments.
• Supervises and manages the development of staff. Provides staff with current information and updates clinical and operational procedures, relevant to high quality care.
• Encourages staff involvement on sharing new information and ideas.
• Helps ensure that staff are fully trained on regulations and patient care requirements, rights, and responsibilities.
• Initiates follow-up on all department incident reports.
• Coordinates staff schedules, including evening hours.
• Helps prepare departmental budget and monitors program expenses.
• Collects, compiles, prepares, and submits program data for statistical and narrative reports on a regular basis.
• Helps directs the planning, policy and procedures of development for new services.
• Demonstrates knowledge of EHR and systems supporting dental practice and managing patient information.
• Helps ensure department billing is current and up to date.
• Assists, as appropriate, in following-up on insurance denials.
• Assures that patient confidentiality is maintained. • Participates on the FHCW leadership teams, including Quality and Compliance.
• Helps coordinate weekly staff meetings • Represents the FHC at funder's meetings, community groups, and external committees.
• Participates on the Health Center's Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement Committee.
• Performs required dental treatments including but not limited to exams, treatment planning, restorations, extractions, crowns, dentures, root canals and follow-up.

Under the Dental Director's guidance, registered Dental Hygienists, Dentists, Sr. and Dental Residents

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

One of the following combinations of education and employment experience must be met in order to be considered for the position:

  • Doctorate in General Family Dentistry from an accredited Dental School
  • DMD and/or Masters in Public Health preferred
  • Minimum of five years professional experience, two of the years must include program supervision.
  • Public Health experience preferred
  • Licensed in Massachusetts to practice Dentistry without limitations
