We are seeking an experienced, hands-on, detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our Finance and Accounting team. This role will be instrumental in supporting the Controller in overseeing accounting operations, with primary responsibility for financial reporting, general ledger accounting, inventory, internal controls, and the month-end close process.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in accounting principles, exceptional analytical skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving combined with hands-on manufacturing accounting, inventory, and procure-to-pay processes. This individual should be comfortable working across departments, investigating financial and operational variances, improving processes, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in managing the daily operations of the accounting department, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory, and cost accounting.
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Monitor and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Oversee and support inventory accounting, including inventory reconciliations, valuation, adjustments, cycle counts, and physical inventories.
- Analyze standard costs and manufacturing variances, including material, labor, and overhead variances, and work with Operations to investigate significant discrepancies.
- Support procure-to-pay accounting, resolve purchasing and inventory discrepancies, and ensure accurate month-end recording of inventory, accruals, and expenses.
- Analyze financial performance and identify opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies.
- Support ERP system administration, reporting enhancements, and accounting automation initiatives.
- Partner with operational leaders to provide financial insights and support business decisions.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering professional development.
- Assist the Controller with special projects, process improvements, and other accounting and financial initiatives as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- 2+ years of supervisory or management experience.
- Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP systems.
- Demonstrated ability to perform month-end closing procedures accurately and efficiently.
- Strong knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, inventory controls, and manufacturing variance analysis.
- Strong understanding of the relationship between purchase orders, receiving, inventory, accounts payable, and the general ledger.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation.
- Master's Degreen in Accounting.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and IFS ERP systems.
