Description
Performs a variety of assignments in support of prosecutorial legal services; provides prosecutorial legal services on selected case; does related work as required. Provides research and preparation in support of major criminal cases; represents the Commonwealth of Virginia in some civil and all criminal cases; e.g. OSHA cases, traffic cases, all misdemeanor cases and some felony cases. Under close supervision, prosecutes traffic, misdemeanor, and selected felony cases in the General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and the Circuit Court. These duties include research, witness interviews, and presentation of cases at trial. Tact and discretion are required as well as establishing and maintaining effective relationships with other judicial and law enforcement agencies. Maintaining accurate files, documenting in writing all actions and providing sufficient justification to support recommendations are also required.

Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of law, particularly criminal law and procedure; Knowledge of legal research methodology; Knowledge of the Code of Professional Responsibility for Attorneys; Skill in the preparation of legal briefs and memoranda of law; Ability to express complex ideas orally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement and judicial personnel as well as members of the public.

Graduate of accredited law school; Active membership in good standing in the Virginia State Bar and eligibility to practice law in the State of Virginia and the Federal District Courts. Would consider third year with practice certificate; employment contingent on passing Virginia Bar;
