POSITION TITLE: Assistant Chief of Pharmaceutical Services

PENDING RECLASSIFICATION

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at the Region 2 Pharmacy in Raiford, Florida.

This position provides statewide leadership and oversight for pharmacy services operations, ensuring effective vendor management, contract compliance, and uninterrupted delivery of pharmaceutical care across the agency.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Vendor Oversight & Contract Compliance:

Lead the relationship with the pharmacy services vendor, ensuring full compliance with contract requirements, resolving service delivery issues, reviewing deliverables, monitoring reports, corrective action plans, and managing contract payments.
  • Procurement & Contract Management:

Coordinate pharmacy-related procurement activities and collaborate with internal offices such as Procurement, Health Services, Administration, and General Counsel to support ongoing contract management and operational needs.
  • Operational Support & Statewide Coordination:

Oversee statewide pharmacy services functions, maintain regular communication with the contractor, and ensure smooth medication fulfillment, hospital pharmacy support, compounding operations, USP compliance, and other correctional pharmacy activities.
  • Policy, Reporting & Legislative Support:

Assist in developing and implementing pharmacy policies, Health Services Bulletins, legislative initiatives, budget requests, cost-containment strategies, and prepare reports for executive leadership, legislative partners, and oversight bodies.
  • Records, Inventory & Quality Assurance:

Maintain required pharmacy records, monitor inventory and expired items, support medication distribution logistics, and ensure monitoring files and operational documentation remain accurate and inspection-ready.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Issue Resolution:

Work closely with healthcare staff, leadership, and internal stakeholders to resolve pharmacy-related issues and maintain a positive, collaborative work environment across the agency.
  • Special Projects & Additional Duties:

Participate in assigned projects, provide cross-functional support within the Office of Health Services, respond to public records requests, and assist leadership as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the Florida Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must have at least five years of experience as a licensed Pharmacist.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience in providing pharmacy services to incarcerated individuals.
  • Prior experience with sterile and hazardous compounding.
    • For Sterile Compounding: "Demonstrated experience in sterile compounding and rigorous adherence to USP standards."
    • For Hazardous Compounding: "Hands-on experience handling hazardous medications and chemotherapy in compliance with USP regulations."
