Position Summary

The Assistant Accounting Manager supports district accounting operations by contributing to accurate reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and ensuring effective execution of core accounting processes. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional with emerging leadership experience who can contribute to team development, operational excellence, and compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and business needs.

Responsibilities

People Leadership & Team Development
  • Contribute to the development of the accounting team by reinforcing clear expectations and supporting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and growth
  • Coordinate and prioritize team activities while providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff

Core Accounting Oversight
  • Contribute to oversight of key accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end/year-end close
  • Participate in the preparation and review of financial submissions and reports and help resolve issues and discrepancies

Reporting, Planning & Business Support
  • Contribute to financial reporting and analysis to support leadership decision-making, including ad hoc reporting as needed
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and performance drivers, contributing to forward-looking analysis
  • Participate in planning and forecasting activities aligned with district and corporate objectives

Controls, Compliance & Audit
  • Contribute to management of the district financial cycle and working capital in accordance with company policies
  • Maintain and support internal controls, audit activities, and compliance requirements
  • Monitor required documentation (insurance, bonding, workers' compensation, lien waivers, etc.) to ensure it remains current and compliant

Process & System Improvement
  • Participate in continuous improvement of accounting systems, processes, and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability


Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with exposure to team support or informal leadership responsibilities
  • Strong full-cycle accounting and financial reporting experience
  • Construction or related industry experience preferred


Skills & Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and deadline discipline
  • ERP and reporting system experience; Oracle preferred

The estimated salary range for this role is $96,000 - $124,000, based on your experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer.
