Your responsibilities

The Strategic Projects Engineering Director is directly responsible for leading a transformative, large-scale engineering programme that enables the organisation's global strategy and long-term growth. The role provides end-to-end ownership of strategic CAPEX investments, from early concept development through execution, commissioning, and operational handover.

The position provides end-to-end responsibility for CAPEX execution of approximately $250M-$500M in North America, driving governance, standardised delivery, and operational excellence across multiple functions and disciplines. It serves as the key interface between global engineering strategy and regional execution.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

Lead enterprise-critical engineering investment programmes, including scope, resourcing, risk management, and performance tracking. Translate business priorities into executable engineering and capital project plans.

Engineering and Technical Oversight:

Provide senior leadership across multidisciplinary engineering activities, ensuring consistency and technical excellence. Drive implementation of global standards and delivery processes.

Team Leadership and Talent Development:

Build and lead high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams. Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and quality. Identify capability gaps and strengthen technical and leadership capability across the team.

Cross-Functional and Stakeholder Management:

Partner with engineering, operations, finance, and leadership teams to deliver integrated solutions. Collaborate with site leadership to ensure operational readiness. Act as the primary interface for key stakeholders.

Programme Execution & Governance:

Define programme structure, milestones, and success metrics. Manage technical, operational, financial, and schedule risks. Provide updates to senior leadership. Optimise CAPEX budgets to drive cost efficiency and ROI.

Risk & Compliance:

Ensure adherence to standards, regulatory requirements, and governance frameworks.

The experience we're looking for

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 15+ years of progressive engineering experience, including leadership of large, complex, capital-intensive engineering and construction programs.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully leading large-scale greenfield and brownfield CAPEX programs with total investment values of $300M+.
  • Strong, proven leadership capability, with the ability to influence, align, and drive performance across cross-functional, matrixed, and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and senior stakeholder-management skills, with the credibility to operate effectively at executive level.
  • Deep knowledge of program and project management methodologies, governance frameworks, and capital delivery best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in complex, high-risk environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Vertical Startup methodologies, and exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a strategic mindset, translating business strategy into executable engineering and investment plans.

Desirable:
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business (MBA), or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to CPG, Consumer Health, and OTC manufacturing environments.
  • Professional certification such as PMP, PgMP, or equivalent program/project management credentials.
  • Experience leading regional or global engineering organizations across multiple sites and geographies.
  • Proven experience working within a multinational, matrixed organization, including leadership of cross-cultural teams and programs executed across diverse regions.
