Full Job Description
WestLand is seeking a full-time Archaeology Field Director for our growing Northwest Cultural Resources team. Our crews can be found working for a variety of clients throughout the Northwest where we specialize in archaeological surveys, monitoring, archaeological testing, and data recovery. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading teams in support of archaeological compliance projects across Washington, Oregon, and other neighboring states. For out-of-town work that includes overnight, or longer, duration stays, per diem and single-occupancy hotel rooms are provided. The successful candidate can be based out of WestLand's Seattle or Spokane, WA or Portland, OR offices. What will I be doing? - Leading and coordinating archaeological field work (field survey, testing, monitoring, and data recovery excavations). - Supervising field crews in their effort to record artifacts, features and other manifestations using Trimble GIS, map archaeological features and sites, draw scaled profiles and plans, and maintain paperwork, notes, and records. - Processing and cataloging artifacts and other materials to lab specifications. - Filing and scanning records and paperwork. - Completing record searches and archival research. - Writing technical cultural resources reports. What qualifications are required for this role? - A Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field. A Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field AND additional years of experience may substitute a Master's degree. - A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the Northwest. - A minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience in the Northwest. - Previous experience writing technical archaeological reports. - Familiarity with WISAARD database and Washington state cultural resources regulations. - Ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours in a variety of environments featuring extreme temperatures, rough terrain, and changing weather conditions. - Ability to travel out of town for work throughout the Northwest (paid drive time, per diem and hotel provided). - Ability to work as a member of a cohesive team. - Ability to work in a fast paced and creative environment. The salary range for this position is $38.00 - $44.00 /hour.
