Responsibilities

  • Develop wire and cable designs that meet customer specifications.
  • Prepare technical documentation like specifications, drawings, and BOMs.
  • Produce CAD designs and cost estimates for wire and cable products.
  • Manage and update customer and industry specification files.
  • Support new product development through the stage gate process.
  • Provide technical support during product launches and scale-ups.
  • Execute test plans in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

Full Job Description
The Applications Engineer serves as the technical liaison between customers, sales, and internal engineering teams within the wire and cable manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for understanding customer requirements, recommending suitable wire and cable solutions, supporting product design and development, and ensuring the technical feasibility and successful implementation of custom and standard cable products.

The Applications Engineer provides technical expertise throughout the sales cycle, including quoting, product specification, testing, and troubleshooting.

Essential Duties:
  • Develop wire and cable designs based on industry specifications or custom based on customer requirements.
  • Prepare technical documentation including product specifications, cable construction drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), etc.
  • Produce technical designs in CAD software and prepare cost estimates and product drawings.
  • Manage customer and industry specification files and communicate changes.
  • Support new product development through the stage gate process.
  • Build an understanding of industry and government standards, material science, and manufacturing technologies to support current and new products.
  • Support new product development through the stage gate process.
  • Provide technical support to production during product launch or scale-up.
  • Develop and execute test and qualification plans in close cooperation with Operations, Quality, Engineering teams, third-party test labs, and regulatory authorities.

Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of ERP, CAD, MS Suite, and general technical systems.
  • Working knowledge of common spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Good mechanical and/or electrical aptitude.
  • An understanding of engineering and mathematical principles and how to apply them to solve real-world problems.
  • Wire and cable manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of cable construction and insulation materials (XLPE, TPE, PTFE, etc.).
  • Familiarity with electrical performance parameters (voltage, resistance, capacitance, impedance, etc.).
  • Please note that pursuant to government and industry requirements, this specific position requires U.S. citizenship status or permanent residency.


Education and Experience Preferred:
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or another related technical field. Candidates with applicable industry experience who are pursuing a relevant bachelor's degree in the sciences or engineering will also be considered.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.


Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work long hours in a sedentary position (sitting, talking, viewing a computer, reviewing charts/graphs, and performing repetitive motions).
  • Ability to move objects and materials of at least 25 lbs.
  • Ability to collaborate with manufacturing team members as needed in an environment that may be noisy.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE when onsite.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
