This is a hybrid onsite position based out of our West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Portescap (a Regal Rexnord brand) is seeking an Application Engineer to serve as the technical liaison between customers, sales, and engineering teams for advanced motion control solutions used in aerospace, defense, medical, and industrial applications.
This customer-facing role combines engineering expertise, technical solution development, and project management to support customers throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through qualification and production launch. The ideal candidate will possess a strong engineering foundation, experience working directly with customers, and the ability to manage complex technical programs with long development cycles.
This position offers the opportunity to work on highly engineered miniature motor, gearbox, and motion control solutions that support critical aerospace and defense applications.
Essential ResponsibilitiesCustomer-Facing Technical Support & Solution Development- Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers throughout the sales and product development lifecycle.
- Collaborate directly with customers to understand technical requirements, application challenges, performance expectations, and program objectives.
- Develop and recommend standard, modified, or customized motion control solutions that align with customer needs and business objectives.
- Translate customer requirements into clear technical specifications for engineering and manufacturing teams.
Application Engineering & Product Expertise- Evaluate customer applications and perform technical analysis, motor sizing, feasibility assessments, and performance validation activities.
- Apply technical expertise in motors, gearboxes, electromechanical systems, and motion control technologies to identify optimal solutions.
- Support development of custom-engineered products for aerospace, defense, medical, and industrial applications.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on Portescap's precision motion technologies and product portfolio.
Program & Project Management- Lead customer programs from concept through development, qualification, testing, and production launch.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities among engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, and commercial teams.
- Manage project timelines, customer milestones, risks, and action items to ensure successful program execution.
- Support programs with development cycles that may span multiple years and require ongoing customer engagement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration- Partner closely with sales, business development, engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams to deliver customer solutions.
- Facilitate communication between customers and technical teams to ensure alignment on design requirements, schedules, and deliverables.
- Participate in technical reviews, design reviews, customer meetings, and new product introduction activities.
Customer Relationship Management- Build trusted relationships with customer engineering, procurement, and program management teams.
- Support customer visits, technical presentations, design discussions, and program reviews.
- Provide ongoing technical support throughout the life of customer programs.
- Identify opportunities for business growth, product expansion, and long-term customer partnerships.
Market & Product Insights- Gather customer feedback and market intelligence regarding emerging applications, technologies, and competitive activity.
- Provide insights that support future product development and strategic growth initiatives.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 3-5+ years of engineering experience in Application Engineering, Sales Engineering, Systems Engineering, Product Engineering, or related customer-facing technical roles.
- Experience working directly with customers to develop and deliver technical solutions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple projects, timelines, and customer priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to travel approximately 15-20%, including customer visits and occasional international travel.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with electric motors, motion control systems, precision motion solutions, gearboxes, electromechanical products, or related technologies.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, aviation, military, or other highly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with aerospace development programs, qualification processes, and long product development cycles.
- Background supporting custom-engineered solutions or highly technical products.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional engineering projects and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.
- Knowledge of ITAR, DFARS, aerospace, defense, or compliance-driven environments.
