Examples of Duties
The Animal Services Supervisor is a single class position with overall responsibility for the animal shelter daily operations and services and implementation of programs related to the humane care, treatment, sheltering and adoption of animals. Assignments may include working weekends, holidays, nights, rotating shifts, responding to emergency animal services assignments during off-duty hours, and pre-designated days to provide customer service to the community.

Typical Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely produce the qualifying knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for an Animal Services Supervisor. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is possession of a High School diploma or GED and five (5) years or more of experience in animal care and shelter environment involving care, handling, sheltering and adoption with at least two (2) years' experience in a lead or supervisory capacity. Additional coursework or training in animal science, animal behavior, public relations, or related field is desirable.

License/Certificate:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class "C" California driver's license.
  • Possession of State of California euthanization certificate.

When Assigned to Treatment:
  • Possession of Registered Veterinary Technician certification in the State of California.

When Assigned to Care:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification in Animal Behavior or Professional Canine Training within the first twelve (12) months of employment.

Other Requirements:
  • Participate with the required City's Adjusted Workweek Schedule and other assignments, such as working weekends, holidays, nights, rotating shifts, respond to emergency animal services assignments during off-duty hours, and pre-designated days in order to provide customer service to the community.
