Full Job Description
Analytic Engineer - Healthcare Data Analyst - athenaNet

General Job Summary:

The Analytic Engineer is responsible for applying their deep domain expertise in healthcare and analytics to improve decisions that strengthen patient care, support clinicians, and improve business outcomes across Tryon Management Group.

This is an individual-contributor role for an analyst who has spent a career inside healthcare data, knows athenaNet inside and out, and is energized by the work of building the dashboards, reports, and underlying datasets that the rest of the organization relies on every day. You will work at the intersection of revenue cycle, clinical operations, and executive strategy, and you will help define how analytics gets done here as the function grows. The scope of this role extends from raw data to dashboards, with plenty of data analysis along the way.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Partner directly with business leaders, practice operators, and clinicians to scope ambiguous questions, design the right analysis, and deliver clear, defensible answers.
  • Build the data assets - curated tables, derived metrics, and reusable models - that power the dashboards and reports our organization runs on.
  • Develop and maintain executive- and operator-facing dashboards in Sigma, enabling leadership to self-serve on operational and financial performance instead of relying on bespoke spreadsheet work.
  • Translate athenaNet's raw data - appointments, encounters, claims, charges, transactions, patient and provider entities - into trustworthy datasets that downstream consumers can actually use.
  • Identify performance improvement opportunities across revenue cycle and clinical workflows, and translate findings into actionable recommendations for operators and executive leadership.
  • Mentor people within the data team. Coach partners across business, operations, and clinical teams - raising analytical rigor, documentation, and data fluency across the organization.
  • Set the standard for how analytics gets done at Tryon as the function grows.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • 6+ years of experience using healthcare data to answer business questions, with strong preference for candidates with deep revenue cycle management (RCM) and/or ambulatory clinical operations exposure.
  • In-depth, hands-on knowledge of athenaNet's data model. Tryon runs on athenahealth, and we need an Analytic Engineer who can navigate that data on day one without a long ramp.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and shipping production dashboards in Sigma Computing, Tableau, or a comparable BI tool.
  • Advanced SQL (Snowflake and/or Oracle) and the ability to design data assets that are performant, well-modeled, and easy for downstream consumers to use.
  • Experience with dbt preferred.
  • A track record of working directly with senior business stakeholders - translating fuzzy strategic questions into specific analyses, and findings into decisions.
  • Familiarity with value-based care, patient panel analytics, or independent physician group operations.
  • Background in economics, statistics, or another quantitative discipline preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift and support weight of 35 pounds.
  • Ability to concentrate on details.
  • Use of computers for long periods of time.
