Get to Know the Opportunity

VOYA Investment Management ("Voya") is seeking a Manager Research Analyst to join the Manager Research and Selection Team ("MR&S"), part of the Multi-Asset Strategies and Solutions Group ("MASS"). This is an opportunity for an experienced public markets manager research professional to join a growing, highly collaborative team and make an immediate impact on manager selection, portfolio construction, and investment oversight across a broad set of multi-asset portfolios. MR&S is responsible for evaluating both internal and external investment strategies for MASS solutions, which includes risk-based portfolios, target date funds, portable alpha strategies, model portfolios, and other fund-of-funds solutions. The MR&S team plays an integral role in allocation decisions and is also responsible for investment oversight of Voya mutual funds and closed end funds for the Mutual Fund Company. As the team continues to expand its research capabilities and investment infrastructure, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership quickly, contribute to high-conviction investment decisions, and help shape the team's ongoing evolution.

The Contributions You Will Make

The Analyst will be responsible for original and ongoing research of public markets investment managers across assigned asset classes, with an emphasis on evaluating investment philosophy, process, people, performance, portfolio construction, style, factor exposures, and risk characteristics.

The role requires a candidate who can independently form well-supported investment views, conduct due diligence with managers, assess peer groups, and clearly communicate recommendations to the broader team. Every team member is expected to contribute meaningfully to investment decisions from day one, bring intellectual curiosity and independent judgment, and provide constructive challenges to colleagues' investment proposals.

In addition, the Analyst will support the team in further developing and enhancing the team's investment research infrastructure. This includes identifying practical ways to improve manager monitoring, peer analysis, portfolio diagnostics, and other reporting using tools such as Aladdin, eVestment, Morningstar, FactSet, Backstop, and related research platforms. The ideal candidate will be energized by the opportunity to improve processes, build scalable research capabilities, and contribute quickly to a team that values initiative, accountability, and continuous improvement. With respect to mutual fund board oversight, the Analyst is expected to actively participate in board meetings and develop reports in support of board initiatives.

Regular interaction with the CIO of MASS and other senior personnel in asset allocation, client services, quantitative research, product management, risk, and other departments is expected. The successful candidate should be comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders, articulating investment views, and acting as an impactful partner across MASS and the broader organization.

Minimum Knowledge and Experience

The candidate should bring a strong foundation in public markets manager research and due diligence, along with the judgment, initiative, and communication skills needed to contribute immediately to a growing team environment. A strong understanding of the investment management industry, portfolio management, and quantitative portfolio analysis is expected. Other key considerations include:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or similarly related discipline
  • Preferably 2-3 years of public markets manager research experience, ideally including equity manager coverage.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent qualitative and quantitative due diligence and translate findings into actionable investment recommendations.
  • Experience evaluating performance, style, factor, attribution, and risk characteristics using tools such as FactSet, Bloomberg, Axioma, Barra, Morningstar, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with a variety of public markets investment vehicles, including mutual funds, ETFs, CITs, separate accounts, and multi-manager structures.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, including the ability to defend investment views and engage constructively with senior investment professionals.
  • Basic programming skills such as VBA, R, Python, or similar tools are a strong plus.
  • A self-starter mindset with the desire to take ownership quickly, improve research processes, and contribute as an impactful member of a growing team.
  • CFA, progress towards or the desire to obtain the certification is preferred.
