The Environmental Health & Safety Ambulatory Safety Program Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for environmental health and safety programs across the ambulatory care enterprise. This position serves as the primary Environmental Health & Safety point of contact for ambulatory operations and partners directly with ambulatory and clinic leadership to identify risks, develop and implement enterprise-wide safety initiatives, and ensure alignment with organizational, regulatory, and UCLA Health safety standards.
The position provides functional leadership and direction to ambulatory EHS specialists and serves as the central coordinator for ambulatory safety operations, ensuring consistent implementation of safety programs across a diverse and geographically distributed clinic environment.
Working in partnership with clinical, operational, facilities, employee health, risk management, infection prevention, and other organizational stakeholders, the position leads complex, multidisciplinary safety initiatives and translates organizational safety requirements into practical processes for ambulatory operations.
The role requires a high degree of independent judgment, program ownership, strategic planning, stakeholder management, and subject matter expertise in healthcare environmental health and safety.

- Extensive previous experience of Occupational Safety Programs, including IIPP, Ergonomics, hazardous and medical waste, fire safety, industrial hygiene and respiratory protection.
- Bachelor's Degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, Public Health, or similar relevant fields and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of environmental health and safety principles and practices within a complex healthcare environment.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements applicable to healthcare and ambulatory environments.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze safety data, identify systemic risks, and develop evidence-based prevention strategies.
- Strong project and program management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with leaders across multiple departments and organizational levels.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary initiatives and achieve results without direct authority.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing organizational needs.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and staff development capabilities.
- In-depth knowledge of how hospital operations operate safely and in compliance with all laws, regulations, accreditation standards, policies, and procedures (Cal/OSHA, Joint Commission, CDPH).
- Knowledge of Medical Center Safety policies and procedures.
- Must possess a CA Driver's License within 3 months of hiring and participate in the DMV Pull Notice.
