Job Summary: The Alternative Delivery Integration Manager (AD-IM) will:
- Lead design development efforts across pursuits, detailed design phases, preconstruction coordination and construction services for projects.
- Collaborate closely with construction and estimating teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Serve as a highly experienced and personable leader with strong design management capabilities, excellent strategic networking skills.
- Navigate and contribute across all design-related aspects of a project, from technical execution to commercial strategy.
- Develop and implement both near-term and long-term strategies for design execution and relationships management.
- Direct and support the formation of project teams, including the selection of design partners and consultants in alignment with contract requirements and team agreements.
- Manage design development activities, including resource planning, budgeting, and scheduling, to ensure the successful completion and close-out of all deliverables.
- Adapt to varying project phases and responsibilities, and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Apply strong interpersonal and leadership skills to influence and guide a diverse group of stakeholders toward timely and efficient contract delivery.
- Engage collaboratively with stakeholders, developers, letting authorities, partners, and design consultants to align on goals, solicit input, and support group decisions-even when those decisions differ from personal viewpoints.
Duties include, but are not limited to:- Alternative delivery efforts
- Review and supervise proposed revisions to contracts, technical provisions, design requirements, and reference information documents.
- Develop or evaluate plans/criteria or special analyses required in support of the design effort.
- Be vigilant and anticipate technical risks and design strategies to protect SBC and the JV against those technical risks.
- Manage engineering development
- Lead and manage both internal and external engineers and coordinate design activities between estimating, construction, external consultants and clients.
- Ensure due diligence and review of design submittals provided by designers, sub-consultants and clients, checking for accuracy and compliance with technical provisions and design standards.
- Monitor and report progress against design schedule. Review and approve tasks to ensure deadlines are met.
- Prepare and monitor design budget and schedule and produce periodic Design Progress Reports.
- Optimize and solve problems
- Function as the prime contact coordinating the resolution of design and engineering problems, reviewing progress, recommending alternatives and advising on project objectives.
- Provide the best technical solutions to optimize the design, minimizing quantities and/or construction time, while all technical requirements are met.
- Effective communication
- Work in a multidisciplinary environment, actively communicating with the rest of SBC, the joint venture teams, S&B estimating and construction teams, and its other members to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions.
- Coordinate with clients, engineering consultants and other stakeholders to discuss and solve design and construction related topics.
- Initiate, coordinate, and design concepts and calculations, as needed.
- Participate in meetings with owners, developers, partners and subs.
Requirements:- 10 years of related work experience in alternative delivery projects with progressively increased responsibility and management training and experience.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in at least one state, with the ability to obtain registration in other states.
- Familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA and DOT regulations is required.
- Demonstrated familiarity with CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is also required.
- Must have the experience and capacity to deliver the design for large scale, highly important infrastructure construction projects involving complex technical issues.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain good relationships and partnerships with clients, vendors, subcontractors and construction partners required.
- Willingness to travel as needed for projects is required.
- Experience and good relationship working with state DOTs is highly valuable.
- Alternative Delivery experience in large projects (>$500M), such as DB, CMGC, Progressive DB, and P3, on the contractor or designer side
- Knowledge of means and methods of construction
- On-site and field experience on civil projects
- Knowledge and experience with scheduling software (i.e. Microsoft Project and/or P-6)
