Position Description
Job Overview
The AI Technology Specialist advances the organization's strategic use of artificial intelligence, analytics, automation, and data-driven technologies across construction operations. Reporting to the IT Manager, this experienced individual contributor independently translates complex business and operational needs into practical, scalable solutions that improve estimating accuracy, operational performance, safety, and decision-making. The role leads defined technical workstreams from discovery through production support, applies sound judgment with limited guidance, and mentors colleagues through peer review and knowledge sharing. Success requires continued growth in technical expertise, organizational influence, and cross-functional leadership as the position assumes broader and more complex responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities
Evaluate, design, develop, deploy, and support AI, analytics, and automation solutions that improve construction operations, estimating, scheduling, equipment utilization, safety, and reporting.
Lead technical workstreams from requirements discovery through production release, coordinating solution design, testing, documentation, stakeholder readiness, operational handoff, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Design and manage data pipelines, integrations, models, and reporting components; assess data quality and resolve complex data issues.
Partner with IT, Solutions Management, Information Management, and construction stakeholders to define business problems, recommend technical approaches, and establish measurable outcomes.
Provide technical leadership for proofs of concept, pilots, and production AI initiatives, including architecture decisions, risk assessment, troubleshooting, and operational readiness.
Develop, deploy, and support responsible AI capabilities and workflows across Microsoft Teams and other approved enterprise platforms.
Establish and maintain technical documentation for systems, data flows, models, integrations, processes, controls, and operating procedures.
Lead technical enablement, user training, adoption, and change-management activities for new AI and data solutions.
Apply and help mature standards for security, privacy, data governance, model governance, responsible AI, and production support.
Monitor solution performance, reliability, cost, and business value; identify issues and recommend enhancements or corrective actions.
Evaluate emerging AI and construction technologies, communicate recommendations to stakeholders, and contribute to technical roadmaps and standards.
Provide technical guidance, peer review, and knowledge sharing to colleagues and project teams without direct supervisory responsibility.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in a traditional indoor office environment with regular use of computers and standard office equipment. The AI Technology Specialist may periodically visit construction sites to observe operations, coordinate with stakeholders, and better understand field processes, but does not perform construction work. During these visits, the employee may encounter typical job-site conditions, including noise, weather, heavy equipment, and traffic. This is a fully in-person role with no hybrid or remote work.
Physical Demands
The physical demands that are described are representative of but not limited to the physical exertion generally required to perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time while using a keyboard. They are frequently required to stand and walk. They are occasionally required to lift, carry, push, pull, and reach overhead materials up to 20 pounds, along with frequent gross manipulation using their hands. The visual requirements include demonstrating or having vision corrected to 20/20. In general, this position includes sedentary work that primarily involves sitting and/or standing as well as repeating motions that include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Position Requirements
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a closely related field. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered; a master's degree is preferred.
7+ years of progressively responsible experience in applied AI, machine learning, data engineering, analytics, information management, software development, MLOps, or a related technical discipline.
Demonstrated experience independently delivering technical solutions from requirements and design through deployment, monitoring, support, and improvement.
Working knowledge of machine-learning and generative-AI solution patterns, data preparation, integration methods, APIs, automation, testing, source control, and production operations.
Experience with cloud and enterprise communication and productivity platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365, and with implementing security, privacy, governance, and responsible-AI controls.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to business and operational audiences.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, make sound technical decisions with limited guidance, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and identify when issues require escalation.
Construction-industry, field-operations, estimating, scheduling, equipment, safety, or related domain experience preferred.
