Job Description:Overview:Chatham Financial is looking for a Full Stack Engineer to join our Technology Engagements team. You'll build production software across two tracks: custom AI solutions for Chatham's external clients (private equity firms, real estate investors, capital markets organizations) and internal applications that improve how Chatham operates.
This is a hands-on building role. You'll write code every day, working across the full stack to ship applications that solve real business problems. The work spans client-facing platforms, workflow automation tools, and internal apps built in partnership with Chatham's product, technology, and business teams.
We build with AI, not just about AI. You must be actively using LLM-powered coding tools like Claude Code, Codex, or similar to write, review, and ship code. This isn't optional or nice-to-have. It's how we work.
What You'll Do- Build and ship full-stack web applications from database to UI
- Write production Python using modern frameworks (FastAPI, etc.) with clean architecture, solid design patterns, and well-structured code
- Develop React or similar-based frontends that are clean, functional, and user-friendly
- Design and build APIs, services, and integrations across systems
- Work with SQL databases to design schemas, write queries, and manage data
- Build LLM-powered applications: agent orchestration, extraction engines, tool-use patterns, and AI-integrated workflows
- Use Claude Code, Codex, or similar LLM coding tools daily to write, review, and ship code effectively
- Collaborate closely with the AI Solutions Engineers and team leadership to translate client requirements into working software
- Work cross-functionally with Chatham's product, technology, and business teams on internal tools and applications
- Own features end-to-end: architecture, implementation, testing, deployment
- Operate in a small, fast-moving team where you have real ownership and impact
What We're Looking For- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong software architecture skills: design patterns, clean code structure, separation of concerns, building systems that are reliable, robust, and performant
- Full-stack development: Python (FastAPI or similar frameworks), JavaScript, TypeScript, React
- Solid experience with SQL, relational databases, and data modeling
- Hands-on experience building with LLMs: agent orchestration, RAG systems, prompt engineering, tool-use patterns, or AI-integrated applications
- Understanding of how LLMs work, their strengths, limitations, and how to build reliable systems around them
- Active daily use of LLM-powered coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to write and ship code. This is a hard requirement.
- Experience building and consuming APIs, handling system integrations, and working through the full development lifecycle
- Comfortable working in fast-paced environments where priorities shift and you need to figure things out
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and ship without heavy oversight
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Preferred
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Background at a startup or high-growth company
- Familiarity with data pipelines, ETL, or working with unstructured data
- Experience with financial services, private equity, or real estate
What We Offer- Competitive compensation: base salary + performance bonus
- Small team, big impact: your work ships to real clients solving real problems
- AI-first environment: we don't just talk about AI, we build with it every day
- Domain expertise: learn capital markets and financial services from the inside
- Stability + speed: 30+ year firm with an entrepreneurial team culture
For New York based candidates, the compensation range for the position is expected to be between $100,000 and $140,000 annually. Total compensation, including base pay, discretionary individual bonus and company bonus, may be higher than range listed, depending on applicant's skills, qualifications, and experience. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, 401k, EAP, paid holidays and paid time off.
