About the Position:The
Assistant General Counsel, Real Estate and Commercial Transactions position is a unique opportunity for an attorney with experience in commercial real estate to join a multi-billion-dollar, high growth, dynamic company with a similarly dynamic and growing legal department and to perform critical work, including leading the legal function related to HUB's extensive commercial real estate footprint. The successful candidate will have at least 3-5 years of experience as a commercial real estate attorney, with a particular focus on commercial leases. This is an exciting and challenging position that will allow you to grow as a professional and eventually lead a small, internal commercial real estate support team.
Role & Responsibilities:- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including leases, subleases, waivers and consents, terminations, amendments, subordination and non-disturbance agreements, and estoppels for a U.S. and Canadian leasing portfolio that includes over 550 locations and over 3 million leasable square feet.
- Interface with and advise all business groups, including leasing, construction, risk management, tax and finance teams on legal and contractual matters effecting the portfolio.
- Manage a team of Transactional Attorneys and Paralegals.
- Oversee and directly resolve landlord and tenant disputes.
- Support the review and negotiation of real estate related services agreements pertaining to architectural design, build-outs, furnishings, and related matters.
- Review and supervise outside counsel and other legal service provider support of leasing matters.
- Coordinate and direct the review, management and preparation of commercial leasing documentation and related due diligence of newly acquired companies (the company is currently averaging 70+ acquisitions per year); support closing and post-closing documentation and administration.
- Effectively organize and maintain case and client files in conjunction with the real estate paralegal.
Requirements:- Active membership in a state bar.
- Minimum 10 years' experience as an attorney with commercial and transactional experience.
- Minimum 5 years' experience leading a team of legal professionals.
- Willing to pitch in and support other transactional work for a growing legal department in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to problem solve, resolve, and close open issues and assist staff and colleagues with resolving issues that arise.
- Skilled at meeting strict deadlines under significant time pressure.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of professionalism and client orientation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with various types of clients.
- Fast thinker/quick learner.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and work independently.
- Ability to manage time and resources effectively and independently, and balance conflicting priorities.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, rapidly growing, and ever-changing company.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across varied organizational functions.
Disclosure required under applicable law in California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, and Washington states: The expected salary range for this position is $175,000- $200,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope and level.
