Aftermarket Product Engineer

Position Summary

The Aftermarket Product Engineer is responsible for providing complete engineering support and technical specifications for aftermarket equipment orders, repairs, reconditioning projects, and replacement parts. This role develops engineering calculations, drawings, bills of material, product configurations, and required ASME Code documentation for standard products, modified standard designs, and engineered solutions that meet customer requirements.

Working closely with CAD Designers, Aftermarket Sales, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Planning, Operations, and customers, the Parts Engineer ensures technical accuracy, manufacturability, compliance with applicable codes and standards, and timely execution of aftermarket projects.

Engineering Design & Technical Support
  • Perform mechanical design calculations for mixers, pressure-retaining equipment, and related components in accordance with applicable engineering standards and ASME Code requirements.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs, including 3D models, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, and technical documentation using SolidWorks and other engineering software.
  • Review and approve designs for manufacturing, procurement, repair, and reconditioning activities.
  • Recommend and implement design improvements that enhance manufacturability, assembly efficiency, reliability, and product performance.
  • Evaluate returned equipment and components, determine repair or reconditioning requirements, and establish revised operating ratings when applicable.
  • Interpret, create, review, and approve manufacturing drawings, including proper application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Aftermarket Order Execution
  • Review aftermarket orders to ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with customer requirements.
  • Identify long-lead materials and components and initiate procurement requirements to support project schedules.
  • Review customer specifications, purchase orders, and contractual requirements to ensure alignment with internal engineering and manufacturing documents.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues associated with installed equipment and replacement parts.
  • Serve as a technical resource for customers, sales personnel, and internal departments.

Project Management & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead engineering projects related to aftermarket equipment, repairs, product enhancements, and process improvements.
  • Maintain product drawings, standards, configurations, and engineering documentation through established Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processes.
  • Support product lifecycle management activities, including sustaining engineering and existing product maintenance projects.
  • Evaluate manufacturing and engineering processes through research, data analysis, shop-floor observations, and collaboration with equipment suppliers and operations personnel.
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing principles by developing and maintaining standard work practices that reduce variation, improve quality, and increase efficiency.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action initiatives to improve products and processes.

Compliance & Professional Development
  • Ensure compliance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII requirements and associated documentation.
  • Maintain working knowledge of fabrication, welding, machining, heat treatment, and assembly processes used in manufacturing operations.
  • Comply with all company policies, quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable government regulations.
  • Maintain professional and technical expertise through continuing education, industry training, professional publications, and participation in relevant professional organizations.
  • Contribute positively to team objectives and perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Required
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of engineering experience in product design, manufacturing, aftermarket support, or related engineering disciplines.

Preferred
  • Experience in designing ASME Code pressure vessels and pressure-retaining equipment.
  • Experience using PV Elite, Compress, DesignCalcs, or similar pressure vessel design software.
  • Experience supporting custom engineered products, fabricated equipment, or industrial machinery.
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments involving welding, machining, fabrication, and assembly operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Communication Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical specifications, engineering standards, ASME Code requirements, operating procedures, and customer documents.
  • Ability to prepare clear technical reports, engineering documentation, and professional correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to customers, suppliers, and employees at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to resolve customer inquiries and technical issues in a professional manner.

Mathematical Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply advanced engineering mathematics, statistics, and engineering principles to technical challenges and product development activities.

Computer Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent 3D modeling and drafting systems.
  • Familiarity with ERP, MRP, PDM, or document management systems is preferred.

Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and develop practical solutions.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical instructions, engineering drawings, specifications, and mathematical models.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
