We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient Aerospace Engineer to support cutting-edge weapons delivery and conventional weapons development programs in Albuquerque, NM. In this role, you will apply your aerospace engineering expertise to the design, analysis, and optimization of weapon delivery systems, contributing directly to national defense priorities and next-generation conventional weapons capabilities. This position requires a strong technical foundation in flight mechanics, weapon system integration, and materials performance, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary government and contractor teams.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and evaluate weapon delivery systems, including analysis of aerodynamic performance, release mechanics, and system integration across multiple airborne platforms
- Conduct weapon performance optimization studies, applying computational modeling, simulation tools, and empirical test data to improve lethality, accuracy, and reliability
- Perform platform integration and trajectory analysis to ensure compatibility between weapon systems and host aircraft, including store separation and ballistic characterization
- Support penetrator design and materials analysis, evaluating structural performance, terminal effects, and material selection for hard-target and semi-hard-target defeat applications
- Contribute to the research, development, and transition of new conventional weapons technologies, from concept development through prototype evaluation and fielding support
- Develop and review technical documentation, including engineering analyses, design reports, test plans, and system specifications in support of program milestones
- Collaborate with government customers, subject matter experts, and test organizations to define requirements and validate system performance against operational objectives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline from an accredited institution
- 8 years of progressive experience in aerospace or defense engineering, with demonstrated focus on weapons systems, munitions, or delivery system development
- Proficiency in trajectory analysis and flight mechanics, including familiarity with industry-standard tools such as MATLAB, STK, or similar simulation environments
- Working knowledge of weapon-target interaction principles, including penetration mechanics, terminal ballistics, and material behavior under high-strain-rate loading
- Experience supporting platform integration activities, including aircraft-store compatibility, carriage and release analysis, or related systems engineering functions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce and present technical deliverables to government stakeholders
- US Citizen with an Active Top Secret / SCI security clearance (required at time of application)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with conventional munitions development programs within DoW, DOE/NNSA, or associated national laboratories (e.g., Sandia National Laboratories, AFRL)
- Familiarity with MIL-SPEC and STANAG standards applicable to weapons design, testing, and airworthiness certification
- Exposure to penetrator and warhead design, including case materials, fuzing systems, or energetic material integration
- Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering or a related field, or equivalent advanced technical training
- Experience working in a Agile or IPT (Integrated Product Team) environment supporting rapid development and prototyping efforts
