Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Aeronautical Engineer - Test & Evaluation to join the team of qualified individuals. Position is primarily located in Rancho Bernardo, CA with an alternate location in Palmdale, CA.

Be the technical authority for integration and verification, building lab architectures directly from requirements. Champion test readiness, fuse HW/SW interfaces, and deliver data that influences design and program decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with System Test Management Plan development
  • In depth understanding of the Test & Evaluation lifecycle for hardware/software integration and testing, and ability to lead design efforts, design test & evaluation, and/or transition designs into production
  • Collaborate and consult with a highly qualified team of engineers to develop architecture diagrams and products within a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) environment.
  • Collaborate with software and systems engineers, as well as with program and IPT leadership, to capture and communicate mission needs, assess candidate architectures, and develop architecture products.
  • Collaborate with teams to allocate requirements among multiple elements of an integrated aerospace system
  • The role will focus on working with design team and lab architecture team to ensure successful integration of new hardware and software in a lab test environment and be responsible for synthesizing and translating program requirements into lab specific configurations.
  • The position will provide expertise to the program as it matures and progresses to later stages of testing.
  • The role may include interfacing with external customer technical representatives, internal engineering associates and program management.
  • This role may include collaboration with design teams for requirements flow down, management, and verification, generating complex specifications, interface control documents, and engineering reports from advanced studies, special engineering investigations, and similar activities.
  • Responsible for leading the test technical responsibilities, including being test SME of effort, coordinating testing across all test areas, leading team through technical challenges, and communicating status
  • The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 5 years of related professional/military experience to include a background in systems, OR a Master's degree AND 3 years of related professional/military experience to include a background in systems, OR a Ph.D. AND 1 years of related professional/military experience to include a background in systems.


Basic Qualifications for Level 4:
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 8 years of related professional/military experience to include a background in systems, OR a Master's degree AND 6 years of related professional/military experience to include a background in systems, OR a Ph.D. AND 4 years of related professional/military experience to include a background in systems.


Basic Qualifications for Both Levels:
  • Must have an active US Government Secret clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain subsequent SAP PARs following commencement of employment to be able to completely support statement of work.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US Government Top Secret clearance


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Active USG Top Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Work experience working in software & network development
  • Work experience and knowledge associated with a Systems Engineering Management Plan
  • Experience with EVMS construct, CAM responsibilities, and ability to become CAM certified
  • Knowledge of native cloud computing foundation and cloud-based environments
  • Familiarity with software architecture development and testing, using modern cloud-based and open architecture and platforms
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methods and processes.
  • Experience with DoDAF and Open Mission Standards
  • Experience with object-oriented programming, design patterns, JMS, Web Services, XML and related technologies (i.e., XPath, XSLT, XSD)
  • Experience developing enterprise solutions for a SOA environment
  • Excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Experience as a Work Package Manager or Cost Account Manager (CAM), including maintaining work packages / name runs, maintaining IMS Status / dates, completing QSST status, and completing CAM relevant forms (EVCRs, EACs, VARs, etc)

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
