Full Job Description
Overview

As a member of the Outpatient Oncology team, the APP's focus is providing care for patients with brain tumors. This team member will also help support other pediatric oncologic diagnoses including, but not limited to solid tumors, such as sarcomas, bone tumors and kidney tumors, leukemias, lymphomas, and additional oncology diagnoses. The APP will be a part of a team of providers and nurses, providing direct patient management which includes evaluating patients in the clinic, ordering medications/chemotherapy, labs, and radiology tests, developing differential diagnoses, and implementing care coordination. The Oncology APP is expected to work effectively with the medical team by communicating clearly with families, working well with physicians, being a resource to nursing staff, and collaborating with multiple subspecialties within the Hem/Onc Division. This role also includes providing education to the patient and families on diagnosis, side effects, and treatment plan. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for patient care, teamwork, and enthusiasm to grow their advanced practice career caring for the pediatric neuro-oncology population.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse I (APRN-I) provides comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. The APRN-I participates in beginning leadership, evidenced-based practice/ research, and organizational development activities with the support and direction of an experienced APRN mentor.

- Professional Practice: actively participates in beginning leadership, evidenced-based practice/research, and organizational development activities with the support and direction of an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse mentor.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree and 1-2 years pediatric experience, required; DNP preferred for APRNs but not required
  • APRNs must have RN compact license in their primary residency state or if they do not reside in a compact state both MO and KS single state RN license
  • APRNs must have MO and KS APRN licensure.
  • National Board Certification required for state licensure
  • APRN board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • PNP-Primary Care or Acute Care will be required
    • Candidate will have two years to enroll/be accepted in a program and five years to complete the program
