Job Description SummaryThe Advanced Lead Engineer will develop, validate, and industrialize 3D metrology and NDE-enabled inspection methods to evaluate complex additive geometries and turbine airfoils.
This role will partner with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers, and will require expertise in Manufacturing, NDE, and GD&T to impact cross-product and process development initiatives.
Job DescriptionRoles and Responsibilities
- Develop and industrialize inspection solutions using 3D optical scanning, CT/X-ray, and CMM to measure turbine airfoils and complex additive features.
- Translate design intent and GD&T into inspection strategies, acceptance criteria, and measurement plans; partner with Design/Quality to close gaps between requirements and measurement capability.
- Lead capability studies (e.g., uncertainty, MSA/GR&R, correlation studies) and establish control plans to ensure repeatable, production-ready measurement performance.
- Create, troubleshoot, and standardize metrology programs (e.g., PolyWorks, GOM) including point-cloud-to-CAD comparisons and reporting/visualization.
- Lead cross-functional problem solving to address escapes, yield losses, and manufacturing constraints; implement countermeasures to improve SQDC.
- Create best practices, work instructions, and training/mentoring to scale methods across sites and suppliers.
- Stay current on state-of-the-art NDE/metrology; evaluate new technologies and develop roadmaps aligned to business needs.
- Present technical recommendations with clear tradeoffs (cost/schedule/capability) to internal and external stakeholders; travel to local sites/suppliers as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Materials, Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, etc.) or related technical field from an accredited university or college (or high school diploma/GED with at least 15 years of engineering and science experience).
- Minimum of 5 years experience in metrology/NDE/inspection engineering.
- Demonstrated experience measuring complex geometries using 3D metrology methods and analyzing point cloud vs CAD.
- Experience working with GD&T and translating requirements into inspection plans.
- Ability to work primarily on-site (>75%) and travel between Cincinnati/Dayton sites.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
Desired Characteristics
- Turbomachinery hot section / HPT airfoil manufacturing & inspection experience.
- Advanced Proficiency (3+ years) with PolyWorks or GOM Inspector or similar 3D metrology programming experience.
- CT/X-ray inspection experience and correlation to other modalities (CMM/optical).
- Experience developing standard work and scaling methods to suppliers.
- Project/program leadership across cross-functional stakeholders.
- Comfortable working hands-on in development lab, manufacturing pilot line, or full rate production environments.
