JOB PURPOSEKEY RESPONSIBILITIESTITLE: Staff Engineer
DUTIES: We seek a Staff Engineer based out of our office at 3000 University Drive, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned office address. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned office address. Note, this position does not require travel.
Oversee engineering analysis efforts for mechanical simulation & digital validation of Canister and Fuel Delivery Module products., ensuring development of complex component, assembly, and system level models aligned with global standards. Govern the interpretation and communication of analytical results, ensuring physics based insights are translated into clear, actionable guidance for global Product Engineering teams to drive optimized product designs. Direct technical discussions with internal and external customers to demonstrate product compliance with design requirements through analytical modeling support. These reviews are critical for programs at decision points requiring investment in prototype and/or production tooling. Drive the evaluation and adoption of new software tools and/or methods for system modeling of Evaporative Canisters to continuously improve the efficiency of new product development. Manage external suppliers to ensure high quality simulation methodologies and support. Manage and administer the global database of best practices, design rules, and modeling standards for Canister products to ensure consistent engineering execution across regions. Develop continuous improvement and innovation initiatives with support from team members leveraging simulation and analytical validation capabilities to strengthen engineering maturity and process robustness. Lead the development of analytical "life cycle" models to calculate carbon footprint for Canister and Fuel Delivery Module products and advise design teams on sustainability driven improvement opportunities. Own and direct the strategic initiative for product sustainability process automation, integrating digital workflows that support scalable and repeatable sustainability analytics. Manage efforts of resource assigned to Product
Sustainability Automation initiative by defining execution strategy, establishing clear deliverables, and overseeing execution, with full accountability for results. Drive global and site level technical initiatives, including material database development, simulation guideline harmonization, and participation in the global fatigue forum.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field and 36 months of experience in the job offered or related in Automotive Industry. Experience must include:
Experience with managing matrix organizations.
Experience performing structural static, fatigue, vibration, impact, and creep using specialized software's, including Ansys and Abaqus along with empirical validation of models and results.
Experience in statistics, FEA and GD&T.
Experience with automotive market standards, including AIAG and VDA.
Experience with global automotive emissions regulations.
Experience with plastic product design and molding.
Experience with Metal Stamping or Forming process.
Experience with Life Cycle Analysis and carbon footprint impact.
Experience working with variety of materials and manufacturing processes.
