Accounting Manager

Overview

The Accounting Manager is responsible for the management and oversight of PSD's accounting functions, including general ledger, job costing, AIA billing, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and financial reporting, as well as accounting for smaller related entities, primarily real estate holdings. This position reports to the Controller and leads a small, dynamic accounting and finance team.

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage the accounting functions including, but not limited to the following: general ledger, job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
  • Manage accounting for smaller related entities, primarily real estate holdings, including bookkeeping, monthly reconciliations, rent and expense tracking, intercompany transactions, and preparation of financial statements and year-end tax information.
  • Manage month-end close procedures. Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, credit card, and loan accounts, and maintain effective internal controls.
  • Manage job costing process including costing, AIA billings, work-in-progress monthly summary by project.
  • Oversee subcontractor and vendor compliance, including W-9s, certificates of insurance, lien waivers, retainage tracking, and annual 1099 reporting.
  • Draft construction contracts schedules of values for new clients by working with Architecture and Construction team members.
  • Assess current practices and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Monitor cash flow, prepare weekly cash position and accounts receivable aging reports, and support the annual budget process.
  • Develop, mentor, and supervise the accounting team by setting goals, managing performance, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Assist Controller with insurance, banking, forecasting and other reporting requests as needed.
  • Assist with year-end financial review requests and reporting.
  • Prepare sales and use tax filings and coordinate other regulatory and tax compliance requirements with outside advisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, or business with emphasis in accounting, is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including construction accounting (job costing, WIP schedules, AIA billing) and at least 2 years supervising staff.
  • Must be detail oriented with a strong work ethic and keen organizational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and proficiency in Word and the Microsoft 365 suite.
  • Experience with Sage 100, 300 or similar general ledger package preferred.
  • Experience with QuickBooks a plus.
  • Experience with multi-entity or real estate accounting a plus.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in both individual and group problem solving situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.

Physical Job Demands

Primarily sedentary office work, including prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. Lifting/carrying/moving up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and file. Needs a high degree of concentration in a busy office environment.
