About the Role

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the GL accounting team, including accounts payable, banking and treasury activities, fixed assets, prepaid accounts, and related month-end close processes. The Accounting Manager serves as a key leader within the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial transactions, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

The Accounting Manager will provide direct leadership, coaching, and development to accounting team members while partnering closely with the Assistant Controller and cross-functional departments to improve processes, strengthen controls, and support the organization's financial objectives.

This is a full-time, salariedposition based onsite in Scottsdale, AZ.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, banking and treasury activities, fixed assets, prepaid accounts, and other assigned accounting functions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Support and actively participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis.
  • Review accounting transactions and reconciliations prepared by staff to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established procedures.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff by assigning work, establishing priorities, and monitoring performance.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance employee skills and career growth.
  • Review team members' work product, provide constructive feedback, and ensure adherence to accounting standards and departmental expectations.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to audit requests.
  • Analyze financial data, account activity, and operational trends to identify risks, opportunities, and process improvements.
  • Support Assistant Controller in preparing financial reports, variance analyses, and other management reporting.
  • Collaborate with operational and departmental leaders to resolve accounting issues and improve financial processes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and employee information.


Position Requirements

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
    • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience required.
    • Minimum of 2 years of direct people leadership experience, including hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and employee development.
    • Experience supervising transactional accounting functions, including accounts payable and general ledger activities.
    • Healthcare, multi-site, or private equity-backed company experience preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and accounting operations.
    • Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and develop accounting professionals.
    • Proven experience reviewing staff work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting and expense management systems.
    • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Salary: $110,000-$135,000. Final offers based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
