Position Overview:The Accounting Manager will oversee critical accounting operations and financial management functions to ensure accurate financial reporting, operational efficiency, and compliance across the organization. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional with experience in the construction and/or utility-scale solar industry, strong leadership capabilities, and expertise in job costing, Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, and contractor-related accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare, review, and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, job cost reporting, and project profitability analysis.
- Support the preparation of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and management reporting packages.
- Monitor and manage company cash flow, cash reserves, debt obligations, and short- and long-term cash forecasting to support operational and growth objectives.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Oversee multi-state sales and use tax compliance, including accurate preparation and timely filing requirements.
- Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, banking institutions, and other third-party professionals.
- Identify and implement process improvements, internal controls, and accounting best practices to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules, including tracking asset purchases, transfers, and disposals.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership, training, and guidance to the accounting team while supporting cross-functional collaboration with operations and project management teams.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the construction, EPC, or renewable energy industry.
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and construction billing processes, including AIA billing and lien waivers.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting software such as Sage 300, Procore, Viewpoint, or similar systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and leadership levels.
