Accounting Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager directs the daily operations of the Accounting Department and owns the general ledger, the monthly and annual close, and financial reporting for the company's US and Canadian entities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB

Department Management & Team Leadership

  • Direct daily operations of the Accounting Department across general ledger, AP, AR, fixed assets, and inventory.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop accounting staff; assign and review work and ensure cross-training.
  • Set priorities and deadlines and hold the department accountable to the close and reporting calendar.


Close, Consolidation & Financial Reporting

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including review and approval of all entries and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review financial statements for multiple entities and prepare consolidated financial statements, including intercompany and investment eliminations and currency translation.
  • Own accounting and reporting for the Canadian entity, including cross-border intercompany and CAD translation.
  • Deliver timely financial statements, variance analysis, and reporting to the C-Suite.
  • Prepare reporting packages and disclosure schedules requested by the parent company and affiliates.


Technical Accounting (US GAAP)

  • Independently determine the appropriate accounting treatment for routine and non-routine transactions under US GAAP without outside guidance, and document conclusions in internal accounting memos.
  • Research new accounting pronouncements and assess their impact on the company's financial statements.
  • Serve as the internal technical accounting resource for the department and other functions.


Internal Control, Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Drive accuracy in the ERP environment, resolving system and data issues and designing sustainable workflows.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that shorten the close cycle and improve reporting reliability.


Audit & Tax

  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors on quarterly reviews and the year-end audit.
  • Coordinate with external advisors on income, property, and sales and use tax filings and support tax audits.


EDUCATIONAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required. CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years supervising accounting staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to own a full monthly and annual close cycle and deliver financial statements on deadline.
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge with the ability to independently research and document non-routine transactions.
  • Experience preparing consolidated financial statements, including intercompany eliminations and translation.
  • Experience working with large ERP systems required. Experience through an ERP implementation, upgrade, or stabilization, and working knowledge of SAP and connected systems such as WMS and CRM, are strong pluses.
  • Familiarity with Canadian accounting and GST/HST/PST, including ASPE or IFRS differences from US GAAP, is a plus.
  • Experience establishing or improving accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required. Public accounting and/or foreign-parent subsidiary experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead a team and stay effective in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively present information.
  • Korean language proficiency is a plus, not required; helpful for communication with our parent company.
  • Onsite position; must be able to operate a computer for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
