As Accounting Manager, you'll be responsible for the accuracy of Avicado's financial records and the depth of insight behind them. You'll own the month-end close, the budget, and the project accounting picture. You'll keep cash flowing through AP, AR, and payroll, and keep us audit-ready for government-funded work. Reporting directly to the Controller, you'll keep day-to-day accounting steady so the Controller can lead process and system change, and you'll support that work hands-on.
You will love this job if...- You get real satisfaction from books that balance and a close that lands on time, every cycle.
- You want to know how the numbers really work: what's driving project margin, where each cost belongs, and why.
- You enjoy owning a budget end to end and explaining variances plainly to department leaders.
- You like being the hands-on partner behind process and system change, not just watching it happen.
- You use AI tools like Claude regularly in your work and know when to verify the output.
Core Roles & Responsibilities:- Controller Support & Process Change: Support the Controller on special projects, process changes, and system changes with hands-on work.
- Serve as the Controller's go-to for one-off projects, analyses, and requests that come up outside the normal cycle.
- Document how Avicado's accounting works, including the chart of accounts, project and cost structures, and the reasoning behind key decisions, and keep it current as processes change.
- Spot gaps and risks early and bring options, not just problems.
- Project Accounting & Cost Principles: Own how costs and revenue are tracked, charged, and reported across projects.
- Allocate revenue, labor, and direct and indirect costs to the right projects each month, with the methods documented and applied consistently.
- Own project margin: review it monthly, explain what is driving it, and flag projects that drift from expectations.
- Budgeting: Own the budget process, with the Controller as the final reviewer.
- Prepare and maintain the budget with clear drivers and assumptions, and track and explain variances to department leaders.
- FAR Compliance & Audit Support: Lead preparation for and response to government audits, with the Controller as the final reviewer.

- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Oversee invoicing, collections, and payments while refining processes to optimize cash flow.
- Oversee reconciliations, AR and AP reporting, vendor payments, and collections, and administer the company credit card program.
- Payroll Execution & Compliance: Run payroll each cycle, accurately and on time, and keep federal and state filings compliant.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance: Prepare and review financial statements and budgets, ensuring adherence to accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
