Full Job Description
Base + Comm

The Account Executive will be responsible for the maintenance of productive relationships with Benefits Consultants and group policyholders, new business sales, and management of accounts of an in-force business portfolio. The successful candidate will work with a team to reach or exceed the objectives-sales, profitability, renewal, and persistency targets-set by management. The management of those targets requires great decision-making ability, initiative, and creativity within a team.

What you will do

  • Manage a block of in-force large and/or complex Group Benefits clients
  • Develop and maintain relationships with consultants and clients, be attentive to their needs so that they are excited to do business with Canada Life
  • Lead the sales process from request for proposal to finalist presentation
  • Perform all duties related to the management of accounts assigned, in particular financial duties such as annual account renewal, financial reports, etc.
  • Solve problems related to unusual or delicate claims and address financial matters for which guidelines are not available or act in cases where a decision must be taken after consultation with Field Management
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with internal partners
  • Work collaboratively with respective service counterparts to ensure customer service needs are exceeded
  • Promote additional products and services with consultants, plan sponsors, and service counterparts to enhance client retention
  • Achieve annual sales, persistency, in-force growth, profit and other targets


What you will bring

  • 5+ years of group insurance experience and thorough knowledge of group life insurance, healthcare insurance, disability insurance, and underwriting
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance - this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada website. The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life.
  • Excellent communication skills, ideally both spoken and written in both French and English with an enthusiasm for doing presentations.

  • Strong sales and interpersonal skills as well as motivation to achieve business objectives
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Designation of C.A.A.S. [certified group benefits advisor], GBA (Group Benefits Associate), or CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) is a significant asset
  • Undergraduate diploma or equivalent


The base salary for this position is between $70,500 - $117,500 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
