Full Job Description
Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for an Systems Installation (ESI / MSI) Liaison / MRB Engineer to join our Engineering department based in Mobile, AL.

The A320 Family Mechanical & Electrical Systems Installation (MSI/ESI) MAP Engineer is a highly technical, operational design engineering role dedicated to the direct technical execution, validation, and engineering authorization of solutions for aircraft systems installations and non-conformities. Reporting directly to the A320 Family MAP Systems Installation Team Manager, the jobholder drives the technical resolution of shop floor non-conformities and concessions originated during the A320 Family Final Assembly Line (FAL) manufacturing process across all relevant ATA chapters.

The core focus of this role is the rapid, high-quality technical execution of Electrical System Installation (ESI) and Mechanical System Installation (MSI) fixes. This role covers the full airframe, demanding a broad understanding of the complete aircraft structure while executing the same highly specialized installation skill sets across the entire vehicle perimeter. Operating as a frontline technical interface between the Global Design Office, Chief Engineering, Quality Assurance, and local Manufacturing operations, the jobholder ensures all solutions meet strict Service Level Agreement (SLA) timelines, Airbus Design Principles, and continuous airworthiness mandates. In addition to core installation activities, this role is uniquely positioned to provide cross-functional support to Airframe deliverables.

Your challenges:

  • Full Airframe Non-Conformity Resolution:Create, validate, approve, and monitor design and engineering corrective actions, improvements, and preventive measures to resolve physical installation non-conformities across the full airframe perimeter.
  • Justification & Release:Author and authorize technical solutions and justification reports for repairs, rework, or troubleshooting instructions within the ESI and MSI perimeters. Standard instructions are approved autonomously, while major reworks are coordinated through transnational engineering departments.
  • Airworthiness Accountability:Secure compliance with Aircraft Safety and continuous Airworthiness standards across all domain-specific MAP engineering activities.
  • Transnational Integration & Frontline Liaison:Act as a critical functional interface between the A320 Family Chief Engineer/Design Office, local Manufacturing execution, and Quality Assurance departments.
  • Transnational Harmonization:Liaise with both Airbus Americas and European engineering departments to harmonize local operations with global ways of working.
  • Representation:Represent the site and MAP US Engineering perimeter at Airbus forums, center of competency meetings, and multi-functional team (MFT) troubleshooting blocks.
  • Technical Repository Upkeep:Document lessons learned and feed technical solutions into the MSI/ESI repository to harmonize and improve best practices across work streams.
  • Customer Relations:Lead or support the presentation of complex repairs and technical explanations directly to internal and external customers or the flight test department.
  • Temporary Aircraft Definitions:Create, approve, and authorize temporary aircraft definitions via special instructions in strict compliance with aircraft architecture regulations.
  • FAL Technical Coverage: Provide comprehensive installation engineering support directly to the shop floor during assembly, equipment installation, flight line and delivery activities.
  • Proactive Engineering Input:Define work solutions for manufacture, provide relevant input to design to minimize recurring defects, and leverage cross-program fertilization to optimize product performance.

Your boarding pass:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in aircraft structure (airframe) design engineering support
  • Broad Airframe MSI & ESI Design Expertise:In-depth knowledge of aircraft electrical, mechanical, and bracket design, installation definition, equipment installation, and full-airframe structural integration.
  • Structural Integration Knowledge: Strong foundational understanding of airframe repair design and stress principles to effectively provide technical backup to the structures team.
  • Airbus Frameworks & Procedures:Masterful command of Airbus Design Principles tailored specifically to systems, electrical, and mechanical installation perimeters, along with internal tools and workflows.
  • Materials & Protection Standards:Comprehensive knowledge of aeronautical-grade materials, industrial standards, electrical bonding guidelines, and corrosion protection methodologies across the airframe.
  • Configuration & Change Management:Solid understanding of Airbus aircraft configuration management rules, the full change request process, and associated configuration tracking tools.
  • Non-Conformity Tracking:Direct proficiency with Airbus non-conformity tracking systems, concessions, Quality Survey Reports, and Design Query Notes (DQNs).
  • Technical Documentation:Expert navigation of standard Airbus manuals, including the Structural Repair Manual (SRM), Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), and Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC).
  • Operational Drive:Well-organized, self-motivated, and independent worker focused heavily on technical execution, with an improver mindset and a willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • FAL Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt rapidly to changing manufacturing perimeters, shifts, weekend coverage, and short-notice production planning shifts.
  • Eligible for employment in the US.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time overseas and domestically within the Airbus international network, supplier and customer sites.
