Full Job Description
Job Objective:
Review accounting for technical and complex accounting transactions to ensure compliance with US GAAP/FASB reporting requirements and development of company accounting policy. Provide guidance on Revenue Recognition (ASC 606), Affiliate Transactions, Royalty, Regulatory and Compliance matters. Recommend actions based on changes in reporting and/or accounting requirements. Prepare and document accounting and reporting policies and procedures. Assist the Manager with reporting requirements, regulations and rules and stay current with all accounting and reporting requirements which impact the Operational accounting teams.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Understand the needs of the Operational Accounting functions and how the Technical Accounting team supports those needs while also representing the requirements of Technical Accounting to the business
  • Assist in the envisioning, design, and delivery of accounting policies and procedures that generate value in terms of risk reduction, regulatory compliance, automation, efficiency by exploiting best in practice accounting policies.
  • Use current technology to help modernize Accounting operations to improve reliability, increase operational efficiency, and reduce cost.
  • Translate project documents, including reports and project specific business rules into technical specification documents for development by internal or external resources.
  • Maintains a working knowledge and can provide guidance on regulatory statues & regulations (ONRR/State/Tribal Entities)
  • Ability to review regulations and incorporate subsequent changes in the SAP PRA via system updates e.g. Formulas, Settlement Diversity, Contract Maintenance
  • Support end-users and super-users with training where required regarding SAP.
  • Provide other ad-hoc support and assistance, as requested
  • Work with Business development regarding due diligence or other initiatives as required.
  • Assisting in the evaluation of accounting processes and controls, with an objective of increasing efficiencies and provide better information for management decision making.
  • Working with accounting teams to optimize and implement new accounting standards and company best practices.
  • Communicate with IT, SAP Functional Support, and Management on the status of projects and escalate requests on behalf of the Technical Accounting Advisory team as needed
  • Represent Hilcorp at monthly PROFOG Steering Committee meetings and lobby for our high priority projects to be prioritized and worked on timely by SAP
  • Assist in preparing status updates for Management
  • Assists in PRA system enhancement projects, upgrade projects, and implementations
  • Assist in new acquisition revenue master data configuration for SAP/PRA
  • Ability to understand complex contract information and configure SAP data accordingly for accuracy in Revenue, Regulatory, & Compliance
  • Builds customer confidence, is committed to increasing customer satisfaction, sets achievable customer expectations, and assumes responsibility for solving customer problems
  • Ensures commitments to business stakeholders are met, solicits opinions and ideas from Finance, Accounting and Land departments, and responds to inquiries

Qualifications:

  • Seven (7) years minimum experience in Upstream Oil and Gas Accounting (and/or related fields) or three (3) years’ experience in Consulting; including technical accounting, business analysis or relative accounting functions.
  • Five (5) years minimum experience in a technical accounting role - General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Cost and Profit Center Accounting (CPA), Revenue Accounting, Compliance Accounting, and Production Accounting
  • Technical Accounting support and training of end-users
  • Mass data manipulation skills
  • Advanced Excel, Alteryx, Power BI, and/or SQL experience preferred
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities without supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year university or college with a degree Finance, Accounting or Business Administration

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • CPA Preferred but not required
