This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will lead a team of software developers to build best-in-class software applications that drive increased efficiency for our engineers within the Blue Engines business unit. You will define coding standard methodologies to ensure the delivery of high-quality software products that ultimately support the development, delivery, and sustainment of all our engines. You will be the single-threaded-leader in ensuring that the solutions we deliver as a team effectively aligns with the needs of our business customers and business processes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Work directly with customers to develop requirements, define problem spaces, create user stories, demonstrate functionality, testing and validation
• Ability to transform abstract or ambiguous requests into clearly defined requirements
• In consultation with customer and stakeholders, develop and maintain the product vision and detailed development package, and roadmap
• Drive all aspects of the software development life cycle from design, implementation, testing, to deployment of the back-end and front-end systems
• Create and maintain product artifacts to support development efforts and business requirements
• Coordinate on team priorities and developer requirements to enable incremental delivery of functionality
• Capture user feedback and integrate into product version releases
• Develop software in an agile team framework, including building consensus on designs, conducting demos, and organizing / supporting Sprints
• The ability to quickly absorb information in an unfamiliar domain and translate it into software
• Think outside the box. Challenge why things are done a certain way and figure out ways to improve existing solutions or processes.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, physics, mathematics, or engineering fields
• Minimum of 5+ years of software or data product development experience
• Experience in aerospace, manufacturing, and/or verification & test of hardware
• A demonstrated ability to manage development of complex end-to-end software
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills throughout all levels of an organization
• Ability to build trusting relationships with customers
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with configuration management systems such as Windchill
• Familiarity with Amazon Web Services
• Experience with unit testing and test-driven development
• Familiarity Python, Next.js
• Understanding of RESTful, GraphQL APIs
• Understanding of PostgreSQL or other databases
• Understanding of both relational and non-relational databases

Base Pay Range for:
WA applicants is $141,162.00 - $197,626.80
