Position OverviewThe Senior Snowflake Platform Administrator is the senior hands-on owner of the Snowflake platform that underpins the Zelis Data & AI Cloud (ZDC). As Zelis moves to an AI-Native model, our data fabrics, dashboards, and AI workloads all run on this Snowflake foundation - this role keeps it secure, governed, performant, and cost-efficient.
What You'll Do:- Account & security administration - manage Snowflake accounts, databases, schemas, warehouses, users, roles, and resource monitors; design and maintain a clean RBAC model and least-privilege access; integrate identity via SSO / SCIM (Okta / Entra ID).
- Governance & data protection - implement and maintain network policies, tag-based masking, row-/column-level access policies, tokenization, and encryption; leverage Snowflake Horizon for governance and monitoring; own PHI/DLP guardrails and support audit and compliance (HIPAA).
- Warehouse, compute & FinOps - size, tune, and optimize virtual warehouses (auto-suspend/resume, query tagging); manage resource monitors; drive cost management with chargeback/showback and unit-economics KPIs.
- Environment management & resilience - own dev/test/prod environments and cloning; design and operate Snowflake Data Sharing, external stages on AWS S3, Apache Iceberg tables, replication, Time Travel / Fail-safe, disaster-recovery / failover, and backup strategies.
- Performance, reliability & troubleshooting - query performance tuning, workload isolation, and capacity planning; diagnose and resolve Snowflake performance, pipeline, and access issues; partner with Data Operations on run-state issues.
- Platform automation & CI/CD - manage Snowflake objects as code (schemachange / dbt / Terraform); build automation with Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks, and Dynamic Tables; support deployment pipelines and release discipline.
- Documentation & runbooks - maintain platform documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
- Standards, enablement & architecture partnership - document platform standards and guardrails; enable engineering and business-unit teams to build safely on the platform; partner with Data Platforms & Tooling on Snowflake architecture and solution design.
- Technical oversight - provide guidance and technical oversight to distributed / offshore Snowflake administration resources.
What You'll Bring to Zelis: - 8+ years in data platform / data engineering roles, including 5+ years hands-on Snowflake administration in production.
- Deep RBAC / security design and data-governance experience (masking, access policies).
- Strong warehouse tuning, performance, and cost-optimization skills.
- Infrastructure-as-code, scripting, and CI/CD for Snowflake (Terraform, Bash/Python, schemachange, dbt, GitHub, or equivalent).
- Advanced SQL (Python preferred) and strong data-warehousing / dimensional-modeling fundamentals.
- Experience running Snowflake on AWS (S3 external stages, storage integrations) and familiarity with core AWS services.
Preferred qualifications- SnowPro Core certification (SnowPro Advanced: Administrator a plus).
- Healthcare data experience; working knowledge of HIPAA / PHI controls and DLP.
- Experience protecting sensitive data at scale (tokenization, dynamic data masking).
- Familiarity with Sigma, dbt, OpenFlow ingestion, and the medallion architecture.
- Exposure to Snowflake Cortex / AI workloads and their governance implications.
