Job Description
The Project Manager will support the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). This role will manage components of highly complex and visible technology projects and program initiatives within TxDOT's IT Division. The Project Manager will apply established project management methodologies and governance processes to deliver work products on time and within budget. This individual will collaborate with end users, key stakeholders, and vendors to gather requirements, provide status updates, and oversee delivery of contract deliverables. The role includes maintaining timelines across multiple projects and proactively identifying and mitigating project risks and issues.

Responsibilities

  • Manage components of highly complex and visible IT projects and program initiatives.
  • Follow project management methodologies and governance processes to deliver work products on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with end users and key stakeholders to provide status updates and gather requirements.
  • Coordinate with vendors on implementation and delivery of contract deliverables.
  • Maintain and manage timelines for multiple concurrent projects.
  • Identify project risks and issues and proactively manage mitigation and resolution plans.
  • Create and maintain project artifacts, including project timeline, risk and issue log, communication plan, and stakeholder register.
  • Prepare and present executive level project communications and status reporting.
  • Manage project scope delivery while optimizing schedule, cost, and resource allocation across TxDOT, partner, and third-party deliverables.
  • Serve as the counterpart to vendor program leaders, ensuring customer satisfaction and acting as escalation point for service delivery activities.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience managing all phases of large and complex technical projects.
  • 7 years of experience creating and maintaining project artifacts, including project timeline, risk and issue log, communication plan, and stakeholder register.
  • 7 years of experience with general IT SDLC processes.
  • 7 years of experience identifying and managing project risks and issues.
  • 7 years of experience creating and presenting executive level project communications.
  • 7 years of experience gathering requirements from business divisions.
  • 7 years of experience educating business unit staff on standardized processes.
  • 7 years of experience communicating verbally and in writing with peers and multiple levels of users, including executive staff.
  • 7 years of experience facilitating large group meetings with internal and external resources.
  • 7 years of experience collaborating with technical and functional teams to develop technical specifications and related documentation.
  • 5 years of experience implementing Enterprise Systems Integration projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 years of experience supporting one or more Texas state government agencies.
  • CBAP and/or PMP certification.
  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools and automation to improve project planning, scheduling, reporting, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and delivery outcomes, with appropriate governance, security, quality, and human oversight.

Additional Requirements

  • Candidates must reside in the Austin area.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.


Work Location and Schedule

Location: TxDOT offices, 6230 E Stassney Ln, Austin, TX 78744.

Schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, onsite 4 to 5 days per week.

Work Arrangement: Onsite.
