Director of Automation

Job Description
The Director of Automation will define and lead Sage's Mid-Market automation strategy, accelerating customer time-to-value in the short term and long term, drive scalable operational excellence across both Professional Services and Partner Enablement. This role will be responsible for identifying, prioritising and delivering automation opportunities that improve customer & partner outcomes, reduce implementation & enablement effort and drive quality within our PS and Partner Enablement functions.

Working across Product, User Experience (UX), Professional Services, Partner Enablement and other key stakeholders, the Director of Automation will act as a catalyst for transformation, aligning teams around a shared vision and ensuring automation capabilities are embedded into both product and service delivery strategies.

The Director of Automation will be responsible for defining and leading the automation vision and strategy across Sage's Mid-Market business. Acting as a transformation leader and innovation catalyst, they will identify opportunities to accelerate customer & partner outcomes, simplify internal operations, and unlock scalable growth through automation and AI.

This role is accountable for shaping strategy, influencing roadmaps, aligning stakeholders, and driving execution through cross-functional teams including Product, UX, Professional Services, Partner Enablement, and Engineering.

Key Responsibilities
Define and Lead the Automation Strategy
• Develop and execute the implementation & partner enablement automation strategy aligned to Mid-Market business objectives.
• Identify high-impact opportunities to reduce friction, improve efficiency, and accelerate customer outcomes through automation and AI.
• Establish a multi-year roadmap that balances immediate business impact with longer-term strategic objectives across all areas of Professional Services and Partner Enablement.
• Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure Sage remains at the forefront of automation innovation.
Drive Time-to-Value Transformation
• Lead automation initiatives that support Sage's Time-to-Value (TTV) programme, helping customers realise value faster.
• Partner with business and technical teams to redesign processes and customer journeys around automation-first principles.
• Define success metrics and measure the impact of automation on customer adoption, implementation timelines, and operational performance.
Partner Across Functions
• Build strong relationships with Product, UX, Professional Services and Technical Enablement teams.
• Influence product roadmaps to ensure automation capabilities are aligned with customer needs and strategic priorities.
• Drive collaboration across diverse stakeholder groups to deliver integrated and scalable solutions.
Executive Stakeholder Management
• Engage and influence senior leaders across the organisation to gain alignment, sponsorship, and investment for key initiatives.
• Translate complex technical and business challenges into clear, outcome-focused recommendations.
• Provide regular progress updates, insights, and strategic recommendations to executive stakeholders.
Build a Culture of Innovation
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement and experimentation.
• Promote best practices in automation, AI adoption, and business process optimisation.
• Foster cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing to maximise organisational impact.
