System Engineer

Location: San Francisco, CA | San Jose, CA | Los Angeles, CA | San Diego, CA | Sacramento, CA | Seattle, WA | Portland, OR | Remote (West Coast Preferred)

Your Role

Reporting to the Manager, IT System Operations, the System Engineer is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and supporting Digital Realty's global IT infrastructure to ensure systems remain available, secure, compliant, and operating efficiently. This role supports both on-premises and cloud environments, contributes to infrastructure projects, and helps drive operational excellence through effective system administration, monitoring, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You'll Do
  • Maintain and support global IT infrastructure to ensure system availability, reliability, and operational stability.
  • Administer and support Microsoft Windows, Azure, VMware, AWS, and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Monitor infrastructure health and troubleshoot performance, availability, and capacity issues.
  • Manage backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
  • Support infrastructure lifecycle management, including operating system updates, patching, and hardware refreshes.
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies and security standards, including vulnerability management, antivirus controls, and operating system updates.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and remediate findings within established service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure management, monitoring, and automation tools.
  • Support infrastructure projects, audits, and business initiatives by providing system administration expertise.
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation and support critical incidents as needed.

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure in a professional environment.
  • Experience administering Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server and Azure.
  • Knowledge of VMware virtualized environments and cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.
  • Experience supporting storage technologies, including SAN infrastructure.
  • Understanding of infrastructure security, patch management, vulnerability management, and compliance requirements.
  • Microsoft certification preferred; VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification is a plus.
  • Experience working in international and multi-vendor environments.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, critical thinking, proactive mindset, and commitment to quality.

Compensation Range

Our published pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and geographical location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training. Moreover, an employee's total compensation package varies by role and may include salary, cash bonus, or equity awards not quantified below.

Compensation Range: $110,000 - $130,000 annually. This compensation range represents the Company's good faith belief as to what it will pay as a base salary for this position at the time of this posting.
